red vacuum hose

ok well today my car didnt want to start. i believe it to be my fuel pressure because i have to wait to hear the pump come on before i start the car or it will take a couple of cranks to start. anyway back to the subject the car did want to start i tried giving it gas as well to see if it would stay on no help. so i begin to wiggle some hoses around and one broke right off. it was the red hose that connects to the intake manifold at one end and i believe the black little canister by the passenger firewall? it is a 1990 ls auto coupe. but the car started right up after it broke and drove fine to my house so im wondering what exactly is it i broke, and do i need to replace it asap . any help would be grateful thanks

ok i believe i found out that it is a emissions thing but my next question is . is it safe to drive like this with no worries? or should i buy a new canister to hook the hoses too? cause if there is no big concerns of driving like this with the one hose missing i can wait till the weekend to try and fix. thanks

its better not to drive like that. just buy a new piece of vacuum hose, its less than $5. if it needs to wait till the weekend atleast plug where it connects to the throttlebody. it may idle weird if you dont.

well the problem is the line broke off with the nipple from the canister in the hose. so ima need to buy a new canister and unhook all the lines to remove. but im still figuring out if i have to do anything special before i remove the hoses or is it just unplug then plug back in ? would you happen to know. thanks

Its a simple swap. Just disconnect the hoses and slide the canister up and out, and just put in the new one.

thanks that what i needed to know since it has something to do with the gas fumes i wasnt 100% sure if it was just a unhook and change out but thanks for the help will be changing it this weekend. just hope the auto parts store carries them and not have to order them
