Release Fork Spring Question????Pics Inside

Okay, i bought this tranny from someone else and i’ve never seen a release fork spring. This is the spring in the first pic. followed by the release fork then release bearing.

Now look at this pic, with the spring and fork mocked up with the bearing.

Question: Are the ends of the springs supposed to go far enough into the slots on the release bearing so that it keeps the release fork from falling off?
I can’t tell whether of not the ends of the springs are possibly broken or what. But it looks as if the ends should go into the groove on the release fork. Im having trouble reinstalling this back into the tranny. Any info appreciated.

maybe this might be a better explanation.

If anything, i’ll just go to the dealer tomorrow and ask to see a spring and compare mine. :expressionless:

It does look a little on the short side.

If in doubt, get a new one.

Thanks guys, I just went and bought a new one, only a couple of bucks. For future reference, the original spring was short a couple of millimeters.

please i’m stuck!!! does anybody have a HONDA part number to refernece??? i’m hella far from an acura dealership and the dickheads at honda wont help me find the right spring!

i just need that spring and dont want to drive 60 miles to acura to get it when honda is 5 miles away.

do you still need that part number?

Here is the part number 22851-PS1-000 ,SPRING, RELEASE FORk 3.53

I have sent you a email with more info. Good luck

EDIT - actually what am i thinking…? i could use that for future reference, but i got a spring and a new clutch kit put in anyway. but thanks guys!! i’m sure i’ll have transmission problems again

so is that a honda part number, i can get this part at a honda dealer?? i had to drop the transmission AGAIN and i do in fact need a new spring this time.

thanks for the help gentlemen.

Yes that is the part number I resent you the info to your aol email address

I know you said the nearest Acura dealer is a ways out. Have you considered ordering parts online from a place like - http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org They are also in GA so shipping should be minimal. I know it doesn’t get it to you today, but it’s just a suggestion.

i got it, thanks guys. i had to go to acura anyway, i called Honda twice and they told me “it’s an acura part number, call them.” but when i got the damn thing from acura, it has a big HONDA sticker with the part number…

cost twice as much from the dealer vs. online… $7. oh yea Wraith, i checked there too but i wanted to get it that day. my work schedule is kinda weird so i try to get everything local because i never know when i’ll have time to work on the car. thanks man

and thanks for taking the time RX3, its much appreciated.

this thread can die now, hehe.
