release/throw-out bearing replacement with aftermarket clutch

I have an exedy stage 1 clutch, I just swapped a transmission and the clutch and transmission were both fine but when I start the car I get an awful annoying whine from the transmission area and I’m sure it’s the release bearing. What I need to know is can I use any generic release bearing with an exedy stage 1 clutch, because I can’t seem to find an exedy branded release bearing separate from a full kit anywhere.

I have an exedy stage 1 clutch as well with the fidanza flywheel. I used a aftermarket bearing from a local auto parts store and it wore within 1 year. I have a Honda one on it now. The metal flange that broke on the aftermarket one is a different metal on the Honda one I use now. There are probably many other differences as the price is double for the Honda.

Get the Honda one, it is worth it. Also replace the bearing release spring($5)! If you are not using a Honda clutch cable, you might break a lot of cables if you drive hard. I have had more issues with cables and non-engine bearings from aftermarket companies… more than you could shake a stick at…

ah, good idea, I was about to replace my clutch cable anyway (the adjuster is rusted !), good thing I didn’t go with aftermarket. how long has the honda oem bearing been lasting for?

also, depending on the cost of a honda oem bearing, should an aftermarket one from ACT or Centerforce that is oem spec be as good of quality? since they’re good companies as opposed to generic napadvanzone parts.

bearing

I have been using this bearing for only a few months.
I have no idea about centerforce or ACT bearings. They might work just as good. I choose to use Honda because they have quality assurance and testing to ensure a good product. But any actual company that ‘races what they sell’ like ACT or centerforce would need the same standards if they are using it.

You can never go wrong with OEM^^^ FTW
