For you guys in states that require a front license plate, have any of you relocated it to another part of the bumper? If so, how? I know I’ve seen a few pictures of it but I can’t seem to find them now.
Here’s a kit made by CUSCO, but I can’t see how exactly it works. Is this the only method?
I drilled one small hole into the grill of my 90-91 style front bumper then used a long zip tie to go across the plate and the grill so it can be tucked right up in the corner. I’ll try to get a pic of what it looks like. Those relocation kits seem like way more work than its worth to me…
Those relocation kits are a waste of money. Just go to Home Depot and buy a bracket the length of your license plate, 4 bolts, washer and nuts, then drill four holes (2 for bumper mount, 2 for plate to bracket) and you’re done.
i just used L brackets. One end between the lip and bumper. (using the lip mounting screws) and the other end of the L brackets holding the license plate.
Here in Texas we are supposed to have plates on front as well, I haven’t been bugged for it yet as my front bumper was shaved smooth, I have mine on the dashboard right now haven’t gotten around to figure a mount yet.
Anyways I have actually seen a number of cars with the plate mounted in the top right corner(left side from front of car) mounted on the sun visor, don’t know how legal/passable this is but something I have been seeing around.
currently mine is mounted directly to the bumper with some coarse thread screws, the holes were already there as the bumper mounting ones have broken bolts in them…
however i was thinking about it after looking, mine still has the OEM lower bracket for the bottom two holes its a little bent but why not just mount the top holes to this right in the center of the grill? or move that bracket to one side or the other i haven’t looked at how it mounts under the bumper yet.
i’ll address it when i go to put my new 92-93 bumper on cause i’m sure as hell not gonna screw through a new bumper.
only difference with mine is that the bracket is silver in color, not black.
any kit you buy will require drilling. but, the upside is that the place you have to drill is on the underside part of the top of the grill, so even if you took your plate/bracket off, its not easily noticeable. took me LITERALLY 2 minutes from beginning to end. you MIGHT be able to get away with using some really durable double sided tape, if you’re 100% against drilling, but I would personally wanna take the chance of it falling off and running the risk of running it over. or worse, it getting flung into traffic and getting someone hurt.
Thanks for the input everyone. I was envisioning some sort of “clamping” kit that is secured over the ribs of the front bumper so nothing has to get drilled. I guess it’s something I can make too but I’m not sure how difficult it would be to design it, or whether the ribs can even support such a design.
I used the 90-91 front DA bracket for a relocator to right below my stock 92-93 mounting holes. It made the plate look like it was floating in the middle of the bumper. This required no drilling.

mine used to be in my tool box but after a bunch of corvette customers came into the dealership needing to order the corvette brackets because cops gave them fixit tickets i put mine back on. i have put it on the driverside using some ebay brand one(cusco copy), 2 screws that go into the bumper. FYI the real cusco one is not a direct fit for our license plates, you have to widen the holes or drill new holes something like that.
my car originally came with the one like ls/vtechstich has but i did not like how flimsy it was, how much it stuck out and its position covering tons of space in front of my radiator and steering cooler…
i think i have something to solve this gonna look through the shop 2morrow, some small U shaped clamps and an L bracket on each one should work just fine, i’ll post some pics if i can find the clamps

I’m actually thinking that little bracket is worse because it’s actually fully in front of the bumper grill. At least by using the holes in the black molding area of the bumper about 1/3 of the plate’s area is on the bumper and not blocking air flow
Or can that bracket be used so that it’s shoved to one side? I don’t really know how it’s attaching to the bumper.
