Alright I know it’s not adviced or anything but I am thinking about installing a remote start in my manual teg. I am looking at possible additional safety switches that won’t allow the car to start unless the switches are active. I was thinking about putting a tilt switch on the ebrake lever so it wouldn’t allow the car to start unless it was fully up. My questions are;
what type of switch would be best for this (mercury, ball bearing, ect?)
Any other ideas for safety switches (besides not doing it)
Does anyone know what type of clutch safety switch is on the car? (IE must be open, must be closed, positive trigger, negative,)
Start by getting a remote start, [remote start/alarm combo] compatible with a standard transmission.
About the only other thing you need, if it is an alarm/remote start combo unit, is to add a proximity sensor, [if not already equipped] couldn’t hurt to also add a tilt sensor, anything that triggers the alarm would also cancel any remote start “ready mode”.
A proximity sensor will also cansel “ready mode” in just a remote start unit, good idea for that day that someone reaches into the car window, for whatever reason, and knocks it into gear and you try and remote start the car. 94
Unfortunatly I am going with the Viper 5900 and the sequence thing does not appeal to me it’s too much of a pain in the ass. So are you saying if I had a prox sensor on the alarm and it was tripped the remote start wouldn’t work. Or are you saying use the prox sensor on the remote start so if there was something in the range it wouldn’t work?
Edit: I am thinking about using magnetic switches one on the ebrake lever and see if I could figure out a way to put a couple on the gear lever. Also looking at the 689M the manual module for the viper however I don’t like how if you open the door you can’t remote start it.
“the sequence thing does not appeal to me it’s too much of a pain in the ass”
So your saying it’s too much of a pain to step on the brake and set the hand brake before you take your foot off the brake.:roll:
Installing a remote start for automatic transmissions on a standard is not only stupid it is dangerous, if the unit does not have a “ready mode” it can’t be canceled with a prox. sensor or anything else.
Let’s hope the day you do remote start your car in gear, and you will, it is only your car that gets damaged.
That laughing you hear, is your insurance adjuster when you try and make a claim on damage caused by remote starting your car in gear.
If I went with the 689M (manual module) would I still need to bypass the clutch safety switch or is that what the module is for?
The module will give you the “ready mode” you need but you will still have to connect up the CIS.:dozing:94
Will I have to hook it up to it or would I still have to do a relay to bypass it (if that makes sense) Pretty much is it going to be the same for the clutch safety with and without that module?
It supplies a ground to the starter relay, SPST (NO), [Single Pole Single Throw (Normally Open)] a simple off/on switch, just like the brake switch except it supplies a ground instead of 12V+.:sipread: 94

Good luck, but your on your own.:sipread:94
I never park my car in gear so it doesn’t bother me. I’ve had remote start more then 4 years and never had a problem.
