Sorry for the noob question but I can’t get my steering wheel off. I remove the “Acura”… What size do I need to remove the nut? I don’t know if I’m doing it right it seems to simple but I just cant seem to get it?
it’s a 19 mm back there it just needs a good hard jolt to get it loose
I remember removing that nut using a tire cross wrench. I’m not sure if the tire wrench that comes in the teg tool bag is a 19 mm one, but your standard tire cross wrench should do the trick.
Is there a method to removing it? I found the right size but… geez I couldn’t get it out???
crank on it hard. mine was pretty stuck when i took it off. just put a little elbow grease into it!
oh, and make sure you are turning it the right way too! that might help. just remember;
lefty = loosey
righty = tighty
before you pull the steering wheel it’s a good idea to have everything aligned all together so when you put it back you don’t need to guess the alignment. It’ll be weird driving with the wheels pointing straight ahead but your steering wheel tilted someway.
you said you’ve remove the “acura” cover for the horn.
the nut for the steering wheel itself, I used the tire iron to take the bolt off then wiggle the steering wheel a bit. no need to turn it left or right but more of a push/pull movement but in the end you just need to pull in towards you. hard!
Mine took forever to get off, little bastard… 19mm I do believe, you can even try adding a pipe to the equation to get more leverage. Open your window/door so if it slips, you aren’t replacing glass…
Also, make a mark with a sharpie on which way is straight… I didn’t, and guessed, and now my Momo is off by like 2 notches… Annoying as hell, but I’m too lazy to change it…
since my car is out of alignment already (steering wheel is tilted just a little to keep car straight) when i put my new steering wheel on, can i just make it so the front wheel and steering wheel line up straight? or should i keep it crooked as it is and go get an alignment. sorry for threadjacking, just wondering! thanks.
I hit a curb once and instead of a new alignment, I adjusted my momo wheel 3 clicks to the right. Been driving “straight” like that for about a year now.
Yeah, it was 19mm, I just gave it some extra muscle and it finally let up. Thanks!
I know, a little late, but others might read this . . . . I used an impact gun/wrench and it came off in 2 seconds.
Like other have said, line everything up before removing and mark the top/centre.
the lug wrench that came with your car works perfectly for this.
yeah i took my steering wheel off like a couple of months ago it wasnt to hard…u should unscrew bolt with drill or torque wrench…and just yesterday i went back in to tighten my aftermarket racing wheel and reconnect my horn:auto:
my wheel wasnt that hard to take off. just make sure the wheels are str8 then u lock the steering … throw some muscle to that bitch and off it goes
you really shouldnt jerk the wheel too hard when taking it off or use an impact, because if my memory serves correct. (which i doubt haha) but our cars have collapsable steering columns.
snap-on cordless 3/8 imapct gun ftw
230 ft/lbs of reverse torque
slammed my DB1 on a 45 minute charge and didnt run into one bolt my gun wouldnt break loose.
snap-on… there is a difference
I dont think its recommended that you use a torque wrench to loosen anything… a breaker bar is more like it.
