removed ps belt, remove ac belt and crank ??'s

alright, well i removed the powersteering belt and it feels a lot better. hard when going slow but other than that it’s fine. my next question is, is getting a crank pullye ( thinking the n1 by honda from inlinefour.com ) gonna yield any worthwhile horsepower, also will takin the ac belt off raise any power, b/c i dont plan on using it for a couple of months. anyone done this task yet? thanks for the input. seeya.

buying pulleys will raise hp some. Typically there are 3 pulleys in the kit: powersteering, alternator, and crankshaft.

the powersteering pulley will be worthless to you because you’ve removed the belt already. And removing the belt will do more anyway (which as you’ve noticed is virtually nothing for hp, mainly just good for steering feel).

i’m not sure how much of a benefit you can get from the alternator pulley, but i doubt its much. I talked to my father about pulley kits (my dad used to road race with scca and NASA, he raced a crx, an RX3 and an RX7). he told me that really there is only one reason to change the alternator pulley, and that is to extend alternator life in race cars. When you are racing you spend all of your time in high rpms, this can be bad for your alternator. So, replacing the pulley lets you run at high rpms and still put out a good amount of power, while letting the alternator not be too stressed.

Its the crank pulley that most people get the most hp from. However i’ve heard bad things about aftermarket crank pullies. The stock pulley has a harmonic balancer on it which helps the engine spin smoothly. Aftermarket ones do not have this harmonic balancer. this is ok for race engines, but i’ve heard it can hurt your engine over time, so, if you want a good reliable car for street and track, then you’d want to stay away from a crank pulley.

thats what i’ve gained from other posts about pullies here on g2ic.

Hmm…very interesting. power or reliability. hm… i’ll think about it. thanks for yer help. later.
