I’m looking for tips or even a DIY on how to remove the rubber trim/seal that goes around the window when the door is close. Is there any clips or anything of that sort that I need to remove, or is it secured by a groove/lip from the rubber piece itself.

The rubber seal just pulls right off. Peel it away very carefully, there are some small plastic clips which hold it in place. You can either pull the rubber off of the clips (but do it carefully so as not to tear the rubber). Or you can pry up the clips to detach the rubber. Once that rubber piece has been removed you can access a handful of #2 phillips screws which secure he metal trim piece.
