removing abs

Is it possible to remove the abs? Will the brakes still function properly? What must I remove? I’ve heard that removing the ABS fuses will do the trick, is this safe?

If you just want to disable the ABS, yeah removing the 3 fuses in the hood fuse box does the trick quite well. Braking is still excellent – in fact, it might be my imagination but I think I noticed a slight improvement in pedal sensitivity… <shrug> (i like my brakes to be touchy)

If you want to remove the whole system to save weight too, it’s quite a bit bigger undertaking… you can search the archives if you want to find out how to do that.

Did the removal of the fuses turn out the yellow ABS dumb@ss light on the dash? Just curious…

Thanks!

Rob

Yes if the fuses are out, the ABS light in dash will turn on. I like the extra yellow light, looks cool when you have cruise control on too

what would be the point of removing ABS?

Well, my ABS disabled itself… as do most ABS-equipped Tegs it seems at some point…

Does anyone have pics or know which “3 fuses” need to be removed? Or are they labeled in the fuse box… I haven’t checked yet - just seeing if someone can gimme a short cut to the knowledge…

Thanks!

Rob

Racer X- I have a leak somewhere in the abs system, and it’ll cost too much to replace. It’s causing an erratic idle, and the power unit kicks in every 10 minutes making a horrible sound. Therefore, I might as well remove it.
By the way, does anyone else have the same problem?

Not the exact problem, but my teg makes that awful sound you are talking re. about once every week or two… is the sound you mentioned like an awful screeching, screaming sound like a modem or fax over a loudspeaker? Best way I can think of to describe it…

remove the fuses and cut the wire of the Idiot light! That’s what I did! (You can even use the light for another purpose if you want…)

How hard is it to get to that wire?

Pretty easy. All the cluster wires are right on top of the fuse box! Find the good one and snap it! They are all in a bundle of wires, it’s an easy job when you know which one to cut! Look in a manuel, you’ll find the right color. (if you can’t find it, tell me, i’ll go look under my dash!)

I just removed my fuses and no ABS light came on on my car… but maybe whatever triggers that light isn’t workin on mine or something. heh

And I disabled mine because on ice it seemed to take longer to stop with it than without. Not getting into an argument over ABS here – but we all know that this “ALB” system on the early integras is pretty damn primitive compared to the newer systems. Also I noticed a weird sound when I was idling sometimes… I think one of the ABS components needed some work, and it’s not a huge priority for me, so I just disabled it.

anyone else have an idle problem related to the abs?
