removing alternator....easier

Instead of removing your cv axle to take out the alternator, just take the bolts out of the bracket holding the intermediate shaft. Flip down the bracket and you can get the alternator through the “hole”. You may have to mess with it to make it fit just right, but I think it is much faster.

If this is true you kick ass.

I did the same thing as well as prying back what I guess is the frame? when I did mine. Saved a nice chunk of time.

alternator removal

is the intermediate shaft what holds the alternator in please help me??

when i did mine, i braced the motor, then unbolted the upper motor mount over the area of the alternator. Then jacked up the motor a little. then i just slipped the alternator out between the axle and the frame from what i remember.

that’s something i didn’t think of, jacking the motor cuz i tried unbolting intermediate shaft or pilot bearing whatever you want to call it. didn’t work on my car, i tried rotating the alt. every which way ,end up pulling axle like the book says. i have an auto, maybe that’s why ??

Try this: It works

Unscrew the regulator cover and PRESTO! Out it comes , JUST FITS !

so…if you take off the regulator cover that thing will come out? Well I might just try that then.

gsintegra90, that’s a pretty good idea. I figured out this trick because I didn’t have the helm manual yet. I’m not sure if it’s the same on automatics, so anyone that has info PLEASE post!

There is a much easier way.

After you have unbolted the alternator, slide it over towards the tranny, and then unbolt the alternator bracket from the back of the block (two bolts). This should give you enough room to slide it out above the axle.

Take off the master cylinder for the brakes, and bring it up through the top. to take it off took 5 minutes, the master cyl that is. the rest well, you know

I went with the remove the master cylinder, but do I have to take off all the brake lines to?? and will I have to bleed the brakes all over again when I am done?? please respond soon I need my car this weekend.

`

yes you have to remove the brake lines. If I recall correctly, there are two of them, and they can be taken off quite easily with a 10 or 8mm wrench. also it helps if you take off the resivoir too, as it makes reaching all the bolts alot easier. and yes you will have to bleed the brakes, but don’t worry, it’s an easy job

well what is the regulator cover so i can take that out,im not sure what and where that is and tht sounds like the easy way out for me…

so here is what i did…if you care at all. i took both alternator and the braket off (the braket holding the alternator on, it gave me more room). i then took of the drivers side front wheel and the lower bolt holding the spindal on. i then had a friend stand on the brake disc and i fed the alternator through the small space that opened up. to instal it i obviously went into the same hole and put everything back together. when you put your spindal bolt back through, you will notice it is hard to get on this is because you have to attach it from the inside of the wheel well.

if this sounds odd to you it may be becasue either a. i have a b18b or because i am esplaining it poorly…sorry. however, if you would like pctures i can post them to better help you.

just trying to lend a helping hand.
good luck. email me if you have any questions.

I tried to flip the bracket over the axil and i could not flip it without bending something. i then did the master cylinder. it worked great and the alternator does but i forgot to bench bleed the breaks so i have no breaks.

but then i did a brake bleed and i am good.

This is the fastest way to do it. I have changed mine out twice. The first time I was already doing other work so I just pulled it right up, the 2nd time it was more of a pain in the ass then anything. The belt gave me more prob. then the alt. itself.

my new alternator is 90 amps and is humming like a road noise in the sound system but it is not the audio system it is definately the alternator. is this common?

Yeah if you have an amplifier feeding your interior speakers then yeah you got road noise… I am still not sure how to get rid of mine, cause as soon as I put in the MSD ignition I got the same response… a winding high pitch screetchin coming from my speakers in the car, but only when running a four channel amp to the speakers… powering them off of the headunit they are fine.
I have tried noise reducers, eliminates the purpous of having an amplifier. Cause it reduces the speaker volume abilities too. I have tried using signal wired with magnetic flux, routing power cables to the outside of the car, relocating battery to the trunk, relocating the MSD box away from Battery wires and lines… nothing… I am lost like you bro… if you figure it out let me know.
