Removing carpet from Teg.

I saw several cars at Nopi Nationals that didn’t have their carpet in. Has anyone tried this on their Teg, and how did it look. I am just curious how the metal under the carpet looks and how much noise is increased if the carpet is removed. It is painted the same color as the car, right?

Thanks,
Shaun Ladd

yes, but you’ll expose some of those tubes pn both sides of the cars. Are you doing this to save weight?

actually I wanted to do this cause my carpet is beige/blond and looks like crap. I guess that comes with a 11 yr old car that I have only owned for 8 months. Plus the previous owner had a dog and it seems like no matter how much I vaccuum I still find dog hair in the carpet. What do yo think?

Thanks,
Shaun Ladd

Your computer will be exposed…I guess some people are exhibitionists, though.

I was thinking about putting some good floor mats in though, or even those aluminum floor inserts sold by arospeed. They would look pretty good I think too.

They sell new premolded carpets for out tegs too. After doing a quich search, I came up with two sites:

auto-interior.com

autoupholstorykits.com

Never actually tried any aftermarket carpet kits so I can’t tell you the quality or fitment. Tho I’m sure you have to do a little modifying here and there. Just trying to give you another option.

I think even a “dirty dog haired blond carpet” > bare metal exposing tubes and wires anyday. If you’re lucky, you can always run down to the junkyard and try pulling off a clean used one for cheap.

Kev

ive pulled the carpet out a couple times bro
im in the same situation your in, its a beige carpet, all worn to ****
i pulled it out, washed it a couple times, wet vacked the water out then put it back in the car…use the cleaner Fantastic to get the oil and grease stains, they got it at cvs and eckerdz
the other day i noticed that i was gettin water in under the passanger side dash and had to take the carpet out again before the car smelled like the carpet looked

I have several rips in the carpet. What should I do, tape it form the inside?

Zumspeed, you’re my new hero =) I’ve been looking all over the place for someone who sells a G2 leather seats kit… although I’m still not sure if its worth $700… but at least I know now where I can get some under $1k.

As for removing the carpet, this is a project I’m undertaking once I’ve finished moving into my new place. I’m planning to replace it, and $100 is chump change for a brand-spankin’ new carpet =) The hard part is gonna be fixing all the damn water leaks… it leaks in the front passenger footwell area, and the rear seat gets totally soaked and the trunk floods whenever there is a hard rain. The front I’m pretty sure is the worn-gasket problem covered in the teg tips section of this site, but the rear I’m not sure if its the hatch liner, or sunroof drain-off, of what… fixing the various leaks will be the brunt of my project. The carpet will be the easy part =)

be carefull as to not destroy the insulation under neathe the carpet, or putting it back you could have a few lumps here and there
