Removing GSR rear spoiler

Well, I’ve been beginning the process of seeing what the car needs, and there are a couple of quarter-sized rust spots on the exterior of the trunk lid. So, I took off the rear interior hatch panel, and luckily it looks like exterior rust–drain channels look ok. However, I decided the spoiler will have to come off for paint anyway, so I went to work on it.

Problem is, these things are rusted to something (assumedly the bolt these capped nuts attach to). At this point, they are spinning around, making me think I’m spinning the bolt in the plastic of the spoiler. Waiting on this PB blast-like stuff I bought to penetrate, but it’s tough to get it in where I think it’ll do good. Anybody had their spoiler off? What are the bolts like? If things were really bad and I had to cut them off, I would be heartbroken if I cut off a bolt that is embedded in plastic! Any ideas before I go medieval on it?

I bought this car recently with intention of making it like new: the main resto thread is here: http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?213906-New-DB2-Acquisition-the-restoration-begins
Here’s the whole album for the car as progress goes along.

I went to a junk yard and found a Aztec Green DB2 and had the same issue with just one of the studs. I just applied upward pressure on the spoiler so that the stud would not spin around and luckily it eventually came off. From what I can understand you can not get the spoiler off the hatch. If you can’t get it off after trying my method, I would just cut the stud right under the nut and once you get the spoiler off you can order a new stud from an Acura/Honda website. The GSR spoiler is built differently than the regular spoilers. The regular spoilers have the studs molded into the spoiler. The GSR spoiler has more to it than. Once the GSR spoiler is off the hatch, there is a foam pad around the area where the stud comes through and under that foam piece is a plate that holds the stud in place. You will have to remove that foam pad, unscrew that plate that holds the studs in place, and replace the stud. If you would like to see a picture of what I am talking about then I can email or text you a picture of what the spoiler looks like off the hatch.

yes!

That’s awesome news. I hope I won’t have to cut them off, but that’s exactly the info I was looking for. If you get around to it, pics would be great–maybe I can get a little something under the spoiler I can use to clamp the stud to stop if from spinning. . .thanks!
