Removing hard brake lines from master cylinder

Hey guys, I’m trying to unbolt the hard brake lines on the master cylinder. How do I do this w/o screwing anything up?

I have the special wrench that does around the entire nut…but it won’t budge? I sprayed a bunch of WD40 on it too. Any tricks to this? I really don’t want to strip the nuts.

theyre seized. mine were too when i relocated my proportioning valve. i could only get a few off with the wrench, the master cylinder ones i was having trouble with so i cut the lines and took them off with a socket, but only because i was putting new lines on anyways.

i say, try a better lubricant like PB Blaster or something.

also, it may sound stupid, but make sure youre turning them the right way. i got confused a few times myself.

Use a flare nut wrench instead of a regular wrench. A flare nut wrench will fit tightly around the nut and there is less chance of rounding off the nut. You can get a a flare nut wrench at Sears.

I did use a flare wrench. Learn how to read.

Anyhow, I got the lines off…I drilled through the old Master Cylinder. Even with a flare wrench the bolts CAN strip, especially if the lines are seized.

BoonyBoun, learn how to read your own post. You wrote “special wrench” on your 1st post not “flare nut wrench”.

 hes got you there.

You sure got me there.

Hey, hows the car been? Why do you have to remove the MC?

Personally when i think of “special wrench”, pertaining to flare nuts, a flare nut wrench is the only thing that comes to mind.

kind of OT but does anyone know for sure if the 1" Master cylinder (GSR i think) is direct replacement for the 15/16"?

vice grips worked for me.

vice grips made it worse for me. i had them bitches so tight i had to close them with another set of pliers, and they still stripped the shit outta the flare nuts.

The car is doing good, runs like a champ.

I had to remove the MC to replace it, it was on it’s way out.

I cleaned up the interior, fixed the power antenna and transmission mount with new OEM parts. Next up are coilovers and some wheels. I’ll have pictures then.

Nice! Keep in touch, good to see youre fixing the things I never got to. I just bought a 2001 audi a4 last night.
