So I’m working on doing an LED swap in my entire dash but have recently hit the wall because I can’t figure out how to remove the HVAC controls or the bulbs. I tried my google skills but it only yielded results for G3 Integras. If someone could link me to a how to or go through it here it would be greatly appreciated.
its kind of difficult but not really. you need a really long phillips head screwdriver though. once you get the face plate off for the cluster, the controls will be exposed. the part with the knobs for the temp control is real easy. if you look inbetween the top of the direction controls and the vent, youll see a screw all the way in the back. this is where you need the long phillips.
i dont remember if the fsm has the instructions to pull it out. if you dont have one you should get one. download it or a paper copy.
Just like DA all day said there’s a phillips screw in the back anyone to remove the wires for the control to the thermostat on the other side of firewall then just pull it out.
Turns out the manual I had downloaded actually had the procedure in it. I guess that just further reinforces the theory of “read the fucking manual”. Thanks for the help!
So in doing more research I have found several mentions of resoldering some points inside the controller. Which points do I need to add heat and solder to?
Go look at the Teg Tips, its in there.
Maybe this will help…

Thanks for the help everyone, I ended up finally getting it out without any breaking. Also to anyone else looking to do this, I highly recommend having a 1/4 inch offset to get the two screws out from the bottom of the temperature control selector.
Did you disconnet the 2 wires on the heater temp control knob or did you leave that part in?
I just pulled mine out and it was a pain in the butt. I ended up breaking my temperature control knob in the process. I resoldered my connections on my push button selector and the lights all light up no problem. Each switch has 4 solder points on the PC board. I didn’t need to re-solder each connection. Just the ones that looked cracked or were discolored and that took care of it. I installed a new Alpine car stereo and I’m waiting for my LED’s to come in for my swap.
I ended up just leaving the temp control selector installed so I didn’t have to fight with the cables. That and the fact that it was about -10C out and I didn’t want to risk breaking any of the plastic.
