Removing panels in trunk

Hi Guys,

I recently inherited my bros 1990 integra hatchback (YESS!!)

There is a prob tho. There’s water leaking thru the side panel by the rear passenger tail light. I’ve read about the tail light gaskets and stuff, but I was wondering how do you remove all the trunk interior panels and stuff? I saw there are some screws and unscrewed them but the panel doesn’t come off. I don’t want to force pull the panel off and break a plastic piece that is holding it down.

Any tips or picture tutorials to help me? Thanks!

Use a flathead screwdriver or some sort of clamp to take off the black rubber pieces that hold down the panels and just pull the panels out.

The panels are actually quite durable from my experience and yes, it does take some effort in pulling them out. You could try sliding it out slowly from the bottom up if you’re uncomfortable with roughing it up.

take off the 2 plastic pieces on each side, there will be a phillips bolt on each side, take those off, plus take off the three plastic bolts with a phillips too, than just pull that back plastic piece up towards you, do not just pull it forward towards the seats pull them up, like slide them up, but they are tuff since they are like clip ons, be careful you could possibly break the tabs.

There is one screw up on top by the sliding thingy to remove the flip up cover panel that is used to keep your trunk contents from view. Do I need to unscrew that too?

I guess I am trying to remove the whole plastic panel that runs along the passenger side of the trunk. I see the water coming from the side near by the tail light and not directly below the tail light… I want to remove all the panels to completely see what’s going on.

I see one screw on the bottom by the tail light, one on the bottom kinda by the speaker, and one on the bottom all the way deep in the trunk. Finally, there’s the screw as I mentioned above by the sliding thingy.

Do I need to unscrew these 4 screws (just for the passenger side) to remove the passenger side panel of the trunk?

Thanks!

to take off that passenger panel is to

  1. take off the middle interior part first
  2. take out that trunk light and remove the 2 wires
  3. take off the speaker cover, 3 bolts
  4. take off the rear seats, all 10mm bolts, upper and bottom seats
  5. than you could take off all the bolts that are on the plastic passenger panel, should be like up to 7-10 bolts
  6. remove the seatbelt plastic thing on the passenger panel
  7. remove the passenger panel with your fingers or screwdriver, the part that wraps around the door area, than you lift and pull towards the passenger seat. than WAL-LA pull and slide towards the rear trunk

Do I need to take off the side panels to check the sun roof drain hoses?

We have a 92 4 door integra too and it is soo much easier than the 1990 because it’s just a flexible material…

hmm sunroof drain hoses, i havn’t got to that part yet, and a db1, never touch that either

What are all the different names for integra like db , da… I’m not familiar with these terms.

Dang, I haven’t tried anything yet, but this sounds time consuming…

So I actually have to take out the rear seats just to remove the plastic panel?

The side panels in the trunk are connected to the rear passenger panels. From the rear of your front door all the way back is one panel. I got it out by flipping the seats down but it’s a little more difficult.

yeah its alittle more difficult to take em out while seats still there, i prefer taking the seats out, but its up to u, you could bend the shiet out of it, nah not really bend the shiet but just slightly bend.

da refers to the 3door hatch or 2door coupe, looks more like a coupe
db is a 4 door sedan integra or it could be a gs-r 3door hatch, just look them up, use SEARCH, you will find all your answers there.

Also, is there a way to test for leaks besides pouring on your car?

My bro used to have the Service manual for the Car but we can’t freakin find it!!

I was searchin thru the forums and found this…

http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?session=59E62CDF9CC348D4AFCD0B8EB132FC6B&Make=AHA&Model=INTG&Year=1990&Category=1&class_2=AHA&mk=Acura&yr=1990&md=Integra&dt=Shop/Service+Information&module=&from=result&Style=helm&Sku=61SK700&itemtype=N

Is this a good service manual with diagrams and stuff?

Thanks!

from what honda tuning magazine said, they use the Helm repair book, instead of the chiltons or haynes book, i have the chilton for the da integra and legend, its useful but I prefer the helms
