Removing pin-striping

I was peeling the pin-striping off my teg today and there was like 3 different layers of it. All the layers came off pretty easily withjust peeling them off and no heat gun… except the last layer it wont peel up at all and it seems like its paint almost. Did any tegs every come with pin-striping that is painted on or something? i was just wondering before i take the heat gun to it.

Thanks

No, but if it’s the original pin-striping it’ll be pretty well stuck. I managed to get mine off with my fingernail (after the car was sitting out in the sun for a while). But I would definitely recommend a heat gun. just try some place inconspicuous first… make sure it will peel off without messing up the paint or something…

ahh that scares me just thinking of peeling my pinstriping off and the paint coming with it. Ahh!

I was gonna take mine off too, but I figure I’ll get a color faded look, or rather a newer paint look under the pinstripe due to color fading.

try a razor blade

I had tons of success using a hair-dryer and 3m Adhesive remover and a few plastic razorblades. Came off with out a problem… I heated it up and with a rag somewhat damp with the remover just rubbed and then used the plastic razorblade to really get it off.

GOOD LUCK

Mine were painted in and on the right rear quarter you could barely make out “Acura of Tulsa” painted into one of them. I live in MN, so I guess my car migrated north.

How would i find out if mine are painted on or not ??

Haha, thats where my car was originally sold. Still at home though. But, my pins say “by Wizard” on them in extremely small letters…

I was told from a dealer and from a place that specializes (sp?) in Honda/Acura and they said that all pinstriping at least in the early 90’s was painted on from factory. I was also told that GS-R’s DID NOT come with pinstriping. BUT I was told that the pinstriping was done a certain way taht it could actually be “buffed” off somehow.

My pinstriping came with the car.

I removed with blow dryer and careful use of straight edge.

Yes, I my taped pin came off in layers as it had deteriorated. The tape would come up but leave either adhesive or paint material; I used “Bug&Tar Wipes” (any adhesive/gum remover should work) and wiped off the remaining residue with some elbow grease.

The end result was worth the total half-hour effort.

i had dealer pin-striping. it was painted. i used rubbing compund, meguair’s scratch x, cleaner wax and a final coat of show wax. i’m sur ethere are easier ways of taking paint off. but, i got it off and all the fine scratches from the rubbing compund are gone or at least covered with layers of wax. i would have prefered a less labor-intensive procedure and something that doens’t require scratching the paint. but, it turned out good. my dad stared at the car for about half an hour, trying to figure out why it looked different. he finally said it looked cleaner without so many lines. now, about those black moldings…
