Removing Pinstripe

Well, I attempted removing the pinstrip from my teg. My friend recommended me using windex(please dont flame, I am still learning and researching and he did it a few times) and a cd as a scrapper. Now, I ran into a few problems. First, it seemed the sun dried out the windex and left marks on my car(like drain marks). Second, after removal, and after removing some of the glue, it seems the clear coat is going with it, so you can feel and edge and you can also (slightly) see where the stripping was. I washed then waxed (the pin stripe area) the car to remove the residue. It seemed to work, but it was in the night as it took me longer to get most of it finished. So I wont see the final until tomorrow.

Problem 3. Well, it seems on one side of the car 3 things maybe occured:

  1. The sun melted away the stripping and its either faded or gone with left over marks;
    2)Someone painted over it ;
    0r 3) It fell off.
    Now, I dont know what to do on this side as you cannot remove something that essentially is not there. Tried scrapping, rubbing, etc. And the dam thing wont go away. And its not good looking at all.

I also searched but nothing really came up except for two posts with one containing this product3M scotch-brite strip off wheel .

I dont really know what to do. I will try and get some phone pics if anyone wants to actually see a description. But for now, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My pinstriping way painted on :(. If I was you I would wet sand it and buff it out. Did it on my friends civic and it looks awesome. Good luck

I just did mine a few weeks ago using a cheaper Napa “knock off” version of 3M’s pinstripe remover wheel. This is the best way to remove pinstriping period. It took me about 2hrs to do the whole car (I had pinstripes from the moulding down, a nice mix of pink and white) and aside from the slight difference in paint fade you can’t even tell there was ever pin stripes on the car. I even used it to remove stickers that were on the rear window. I highly recommend going this route, much quicker and easier then using chemicals and scrapping.

Well, the side that was scrapped and waxed is actually looking pretty good. But the other side that looked faded, well, it looks likes crap. NO scrapping or whatever works. Numb, whered you get your knockoff, for how much and what is it called??

Also, should I just put some clear coat on where it is peeling or stripped??
