Removing the Rear Calipers, Emergency Brake Cable Seized at Mount Arm

Hi,

I’m putting on new rear calipers on my non-ABS DA9, but I’m stuck. I’ve removed the dust shield, the primary caliper bolts, the banjo bolt and brake hose. With a little bit of elbow grease I removed the clevis lock pin. With some PB Blaster and a generous helping of butane heat I removed the clevis pin itself. With some PB Blaster and my precision vice grips I twisted off the clip that secures the emergency brake cable at the mount arm.

Now I’m stuck. The last thing that needs to come off is the emergency brake cable. I think after removing the mount clip it slides right out the mount hole. The hole in the mount arm is about 1/4" thick and I believe there’s a sleeve that surrounds the e-brake cable as it goes through the mount hole. This sleeve (or something) is seized right inside the mount. Either that or there is still something to remove. This means that even though I’ve removed the mount clip I still can’t get the damn e-brake cable to let the caliper go.

I’ve thought of heat and PB Blaster, but both of those are seriously unfriendly to the rubber on the hose.

Has anyone done this? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you so very much, man. This was about as much as I could have expected for an answer. Eric the car guy is excellent. Who would have known that there was a youtube vid just for this problem.

BTW: Eric sort of side-steps the problem by removing the old mount arm and re-using it rather than extracting the e-brake cable from it. That should work and even if I did want to use the new mount arm this gives you a much better angle to work with it.
