Removing windshield trim

My car is getting painted tommorow, and I hope someone can help me out on this one (search came up empty).

How do I remove the windshield trim/mouldings? The local autoglass place won’t do it without removing the windshield.
Hope someone can help.

Y don’t u just paint the windshield trim?

I always wanted to do that in mine…

I’ve never done it, but the rust on my roof is pushing mine out :uhoh:

I think you start with those top corner pieces? the metal ones? Pry those out (carefully). Then the edges of the other strips should be exposed and you should be able to get them out.

Anyone else? I only have untill the end of today + tonight to get them off.

A little late, but you take a very thin, small flathead screwdriver and put it between the paint and the trim, and pry it upwards… Start with the side pieces, then the top trim piece. The corner will come out pretty easily.

All pieces are held in by tiny clips, and prying LIGHTLY on the trim will give you enough room to see and do what you need to do.

BTW: May want to use a towel or something to not scratch the paint (although not needed for you as you are getting the car painted anyways!)…

Use a very thin strong flat screw driver or flat piece of metal and lift the modeling upwards while pushing the tool outwards towards the side of the car… You only do this at the pints where there is a clip, that’s the reason for lifting the molding slightly. The tool will compress the clip and release it, they are fragile and might break but they are easily replacible. they are green in color and the corner moldings come off with the sides as one peice… the top more than likely would have to be replaced if you try and remove it… it is held in with the window glue. just tape it off… tremember push outwards , do not torque or pri or you’ll crack your windshield

Thanks for all the replys everyone. I ended up just prying them enough to tuck masking tape under them, without removing them.

BTW the car came out great, will post pictures soon.
