Renewing your Foggy Foglights *With Pics* DIY

K, I recently decided I was fed up with those rediculously foggy plastic foglights and with a lot of grunt work was able to get them to look pretty much like glass so I thought i would share :stuck_out_tongue:

Things you’ll need:

  1. Sandpaper: 120,220,400,600,800,1000,1500 grit

  2. A random orbital polisher or a lot more elbow grease. (I got one of those cheap blue Simonize polishers at Canadian Tire on sale for 30 bucks and it works fine)

3)Medium cut polish, Light cut/Swirl remover polish, and Megwires PlastiX (See attachment 1)

So I start with the 120 grit and drysand the heck out of it with the paper wrapped around a block. (Any piece of wood or whatever can be used as a block) I Used 120 in order to try and get at the deepest of the pits caused by tiny rocks hitting the fog at speed over time. You can see them in the second pic attached below.

NOTE: If you have no pits on yours than just start with 4 or 600 grit.

Once i was finished with the 120 Grit they looked like the third attachment below.

Then I drysanded with the 220 and 400.

Now on to the wetsanding. Starting with 400 again with the light and sandpaper wet I sanded in a circular motion for 5 minutes easy grit of paper. 400 then 600 then 800 all the way to 1500 making sure to dry it completely in between and checking really carefully under bright light to make sure I didnt miss any spots. If you see any deep scratches you missed make sure to go back and sand with the heavier grit until it dissapears.

After the 1500 grit it should look something like this: (See attachment 4 below)

Then using my polisher I put some cut polish on the terrycloth pad and just buffed it out for less than a minute, then switched pads, and repeated the process using the swirl remover/fine cut polish.

Once that was done. I applied the final coat of Megwires Plastix by hand andit came out pretty shiny like this: (See attachment 5)

I had already removed the plastic cover from the foglight housing to take out the glare guards but I’m sure you can do it with them still intact. With all of this done and the 55w H3’s in there it’s like having a second set of headlights on my car!!!

Hope that helps. Any questions feel free to ask.

You should do it as a little hobby, I would most likey buy a pair off of you if u do decide to do it

Stock fogs = REdone Glass lens look w/ no glare guards = $$$ = good profit for you!

Lmk if u take it up

Well thanks Josh. I would be happy to do this for people, I kinda get a sick kick out of obsessing on things. i dunno about $$$ for me though. Its very labor intensive and in order to keep the cost reasonable I wouldn’t be able to charge much.

Say like, 20 per light plus shipping. I wouldn’t even make 20 per hour and thats a lot less than my day job lol.

I’d be happy to do it for anyone who wanted tho.

Check out what the bumper lights turn out like…I really like these. Before: (See attachment 1)

And after: (See Attachment 2)
