I have a stock '93 Integra LS with auto tranny. I bought the car in '07 with 138k, has 200k now. Since mid July I’ve been having leaking/overheating problems. The first thing I noticed was my fan would keep running after the car was shut off. Then one day after driving home and returning to the car about 45 min later, most of the coolant had leaked out. I didn’t notice at the time and drove about 5 miles. When I was idling I saw smoke and the gauge was up in the red and the car was gushing coolant. The mechanic diagnosed a bad bypass hose and replaced it. A few days later, i noticed the temp gauge creeping past normal. This time the mechanic diagnosed a bad radiator cap and replaced that. A few days later the car overheated again spewing coolant and once again the bypass hose was blamed. After 2 overheats, I began springing leaks from other old hoses including one in front of and to the left of the intake manifold, and one behind the intake manifold. They were replaced as well as the THERMOSTAT. The car was fine for about 3 weeks. Then once again I came out to my car after driving home earlier and all the coolant had leaked out again! I took it to Acura and they replaced the bypass hose (3rd time!) The car was good for 3 days, then while driving to work, the gauge crept past normal then returned. I took it back to Acura. They couldn’t find the problem but suspected either an air in the system or bad head gasket. They bled it, and tested for a bad head gasket and that was not the case. They also found the fans to be working correctly. So I’ve been driving the car for 5 days, and the temp gauge will go up to about 3/4 sporadically. Sometimes after coming off the highway at idle, sometimes while driving on the highway, sometimes when going up inclines…what is going on??? I want to have the thermostat, relay, and sensors replaced. What do you guys think is happening?? Thanks.
sounds like you have a bad water pump or bad clogged radiator. also i recommend to check all your hoses including heater hoses mini heater hoses also your upper and lower radiator hoses for a brittle hose. also check your heator core. hope this helps
I agree I would chang all my hoses ( that what i did) an then flush the system to make sure the heater an radiator are not cloged .when was the last time the water pump was replaced?
If there is a local shop in your area that specializes in radiator svce, start there. They will help you to pressure test the system AND test the rad for a small fee.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. The water pump was replaced in the first or second year I owned the car. I assumed the mechanics I’ve been to and the Acura dealer checked the upper and lower radiator hoses and the radiator itself to rule them out as problems. I don’t think the heater core has been looked at. Thanks again guys.
