whats goin…recently bought a teg and well…the guy before me didn’t take much care of it. but these are the current problems…
oil pan gasket or rear main seal needs replacement, got an oil leak pretty bad
struts are shot…on tokico blues with unknown springs
brake pedal fluctuates with pressure…sometimes i have to push it alot deepeer than others…
right front bearing is showin play when the car is on the lift, and on the road its a loud hum
not too sure where to start, if start anywhere at all…
a mechanic said maybe i should look into a new engine since replacement of rear main seal would require either tranny dropped or engine lifted…
i dont really care for the drop, going stock is actually more appealing to me.
It depends how severe each one is. I would start with the safety problems. The brake problem and the loose wheel bearing. Then suspension, and then the oil leak. I would determine exactly where the oil leak is before dropping the transmission. As far as getting a new engine, I wouldn’t recommend this if the only problem is the rear seal. With the transmission dropped, the seal is very easy to change. However if you having problems with the engine or really high miles you could consider it. Also, how big is the oil leak? How much do you have to top it up?
I agree with what da9teg above said. Fix the safety issues first. If the oil leak isn’t terrible then I’d let that be my lowest priority item. If the car wasn’t taken care of then another thing you might want to consider is a timing belt replacement in the near future.
as stated above by our helpful members… SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!!! =) start with the brakes… sounds like a bad “master cylinder” or maybe brakes just need to be bleed. wheel bearing right away… u can get the master cylinder and wheel bearing fixed for about 150 dollars…
