Repair with OEM Part or After Market Part? - Help!

I got side-swiped last week resulting in damages to the driver side fender and the front bumper.

The fender will have to be replaced while the bumper will be repaired. Total cost will be roughly $2G.

The insurance company will not pay for OEM parts if aftermarket parts are available at a lower price. Their reasoning is that use of OEM part is equivalent to a betterment rather then a repair. If I want the OEM parts I will have to pay the price difference.

Does anyone know the difference between OEM parts and aftermarket parts in terms of quality and worksmanship?? Should I get the OEM part or just settle for the aftermarket part??

Your suggestions/comments will be appreciated.

see if you can get the OEM bumper and fender from a junkyard. Usually those parts aren’t too hard to find, and they’re probably as cheap if not cheaper than aftermarket. just find some without dents/holes, attach and paint.

Your insurance company is a bunch of non-drivin’ f*ck ups. They’re SUPPOSE to replace them with OEM parts. Mine does, mine won’t let the body shop use anything but OEM.

You don’t want to skrimp on body parts, they never fit right from aftermarket. Trust me I’m still living a nightmare. My hood doesn’t fit properly to my fenders. :frowning:

DITTO. My bumper (aftermarket replacement) doens’t fit the car properly… it’s off by about 1/2" on the sides where it meets the side fender panel… fukking thing.
