Replaced Oil Pan gasket, oil still leaking from oil pump ?

The oil pan gasket was in terrible shape anyway, so it wasn’t a waste of time to change it, but I’m still leaking oil from there. I see it accumulating and dripping from what I think is the oil pump. Has anyone ever changed this ?

From the Helms it looks like a pretty in depth job with lots of gaskets. The weird thing is that the oil is very thin and yellow, as if it was new. The oil I drained before I changed the oil pan gasket was the usual brown. Why would this oil be different ? I’m sure it’s oil because my oil level has dropped a bit (found by checking the dipstick), and all my other fluid levels are fine.

Any thoughts ?

Just a question, did you use Honda Bond on the gasket and if you did, did you wait for it to cure before adding oil?

I just did mine and cleaned the gasket sealing area on the block with Castrol Super Clean and then used HB on the gaket and let it sit overnight. I filled it the next morning and it’s been fine.

HTH

No I didn’t use Honda Bond. Helms didn’t mention it. Besides the place I had it done before (3 years ago or so) did a really crappy job and used some black liquid gasket. It was messy and there were pieces floating around in the oil pan and in the oil strainer. I cleaned off all the residue that was left around the metal bumps (the liquid gasket was caked all over it) and along the underside of the mating surface.

Neil, it sounds like its either the front main seal or the oil pump gasket. The bad news is that you have to remove the oilpan and timing belt to change it. If you haven’t installed a timing belt in 70,000 miles or so nows a good time, along with a water pump and pulley. Heres another diagram for ya: http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net/acura/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=INTEGRA&catcgry2=1992&catcgry3=3DR+LS&catcgry4=KA5MT&catcgry5=OIL+PUMP-OIL+STRAINER
I think its numbers 20 or 21 that may be leaking.

Slacker you’re a smart dude.

I went to the mechanic and he said the same thing (front main seal). I changed my timing belt at 90K and I’m at 120K right now. The leak is still slow, so my mechanic said it would be okay to ride with it for now until it gets really bad. I’m keeping a quart of oil in my back seat just in case it needs a refresher.

Take ur valve cover off…Check ur T-belt for contamination…

Check ur cam seals while ur at it as well…
