replaced rack but moved steering wheel

Hey,
I replaced the steering rack with a reman one and lost the orientation of the steering wheel with the wheels. Now with the wheels pointing straight ahead, the steering wheel is upside down.

This is a 1990 Integra hatch back, power steering and AT. No air bag. but with cruise.

Can I simply take the steering wheel off, turn it, and put it back on? Is there a clock spring or other device that I might mess up?

How would you fix this?

thanks,
Dave

I think you can remove the center bolt in the steering wheel and just flip it around

Im pretty sure it is that easy, there is a little ring that lines up with the wheel but I dont think it matters in this situation as it rotates too. Take it off and find out, you will know right away if it will work.

As far as I know you need to make sure the wheels are str8 disconect the steering shaft from the steering rack and move your steering wheel str8 and reconected!

So say I am swapping in a manual rack…how do I know the rack going into the car is already centered?

With the rack out of the car, you have to turn the steering spline that connects to the steering shaft from lock to lock and count the total number of turns. Then turn the rack half of those turns and its centered. With the steering wheel straight, you then install the rack and bolt it to the steering shaft. If you counted the number of turns on the tie rods before uninstalling the old rack, then reinstall them by that thread count. If not, get the front tires as straight as you can and thread on the tie rods until they can drop in the steering knuckle. Then take it straight to an alignment shop

Great answer!

Thank you.
