I went to get a an oil change today and the guy at the shop told me i needed a new oil pan because the thread on it is stripped. they had to put in a bigger thread bolt and used sealant for it to not leak. he said the labor for installing a new oil pan is $185. So how easy is it to do this, it would be nice to do this my self and save some $$$.
If your not leaking any oil, don’t worry about it, but be careful during oil changes. If you are leaking oil from the drain bolt, you can try to use a fix-it kit for the drain bolt or try another oversized bolt.
If you must swap the pan, it really isn’t a big deal, but the pans are expensive. Don’t make the same mistake many people do by over-tightening the pan bolts/nuts tho. The labor should be around $50. Buy a manual and a torque wrench and save yourself some money.
Swapping out the oil pan is very easy. Jack the car up drain the oil and theirs a ton of 10mm nuts and a few bolts, remove put on a new gasket than reverse the process. I have a few spare oil pans that I’ll pretty much give you if you pay for shipping and like $5 for my time.
thanks man, that’s a good idea, i should get a helm manual, which would come real handy later on the road. how good of an instructions does the helms give? how much can i get a torque wrench for? Will any B series oil pan work? i’ve searched and found a thread saying it does, except for GSR or TypeR but just wanted to make sure.
twictch27, what’s the condition of the oil pan, how many spare onces do you have? i can pay for the shipping plus give you $$$, i can give you more than $5, how much more $$$ depend on the shipping charge. my zip is 80011 if you wanna check. lmk. thanks
Sorry for the long replie Some things came up. Its in good shape, i’ll check on shipping tomarow for ya.
twicth27, hold off on that, i already have a deal with someone else…if it doesn’t go through i’ll let you know.
I wrote the TegTip on replacing the oil pan. It’s pretty cut n dry.
ok so i finally got an oil pan today
anyone know what i can use to clean off the brown stain? now all i need is a gasket and torque wrench, and what drive size for the torque wrench? sorry for the newb questions.
thanks
simple green is pretty freakin good at cutting out greese and oil. and for the torque wrench. use a 3/8 inch and torque the bolts to 108 in-lbs.
coo, thanks!
well i just went on ebay and purchased the tools and the gasket, i’ll pickup some simple green tommorow at home depot…thanks again 1991 acura!
anytime dude. good luck with it.
hey, does all b series gaskets fit? are the b16a and b17 oil pan gaskets interchangeable?
i got the gasket from ebay and in he description it said it’ll fit b16,b18, and b20. I didn’t see b17 anywhere, i think b17 is in a league of its own tho.
you might want to ask the seller and double check,
wtf, i bought one for $38.03 today…=[ got it at the honda dealer because i thought it would be cheaper…
damn that sux i thought they were suppose to be $29 something, what’s the part number on your gasket? is it 11251 P30 004? if so it’s the same one as mine.
