Replacing speedo cable

does anybody know if a CRX cable is the same as a DA cable?

Thanks so much for the pics. I’ve been wanting to do this for some time, but afraid of that stupid clip…my ex is a mechanic and even had a hard time with that thing, but I think I’m good now. Can’t wait for the birds to shut up and the needle arthritis to stop

crx cable should be the same…at least it is also the same on a 90 si hatch.

I just bought a new cable and replaced it along with the clip, but I dunno if I installed it wrong or its not in all the way but my speed bounces like crazy and jumps way up when I let the clutch out. Any help would be great!

Anyone?

you probably installed it wrong or it is bad. figure out what happened and get back to us.

I installed mine with no problem, you must have installed it wrong.

remove it from the cluster so you can try pulling it from the Trans. . If it comes out ,then you probably did somehting funny when putting the clip on.Doing this can leave it just sitting and causing the speedometer to start spinning/jumping.

Thanks its been fixed for a while it was the cluster :frowning:

I swapped my cluster and when i pulled the cluster out i also pulled the fitting/clip that held the cable to the cluster out with the cluster. I managed to push that fitting/clip back on to the cable but now my speedo bounces a little within a 2 mph. Is that cable bad now?

you probably stretched the cable

well then i guess more excuse to work on my car then. lol

I replaced my Distributor & rotor, alternator, all new belts, Only to find it was the damm speedo cable making all the noise! I curse my speedo cable( just kidding i love you speedo cable for telling me how slow i am going ) if you read this whole thing, you need sumthin els to do lol.

this is why I ask people to use the G2IC attachment feature instead of linking…

I always wondered how people attached things, after reading this I checked and oddly enough  there’s a little button right there that says “Upload Images”…

I will always upload them from this moment forward. It is such a pain seeing DIY’s that dont have photos and you have no idea what “little clip” the guys talking about. Even worse…“Highlighted in the photo you can see the small arrow pointing to”…whatever the hell it is I cant find. And of course the photo is long gone.

Thanks N FUL FX for the reminder.

My cable wont click in what do I do ?? Please help

the cable inside the cable is squared so it will not fit rite away. if u can have a second person out side wiggle the cable from the engine bay turning it back and forth a bit that helped me alot. if u look at the cable closely u can see the square im talkin about and then look at the hole that cable needs to go in(cluster). square into square is not like round into round.

I replaced my speedo cable today and then had to go to work(I actually live at work) so I couldn’t test it out yet. But while install it in the transmission end I was thinking I had to line up the notch on the cable with the slit inside the transmission. Just double checking I spun it around and wiggled it a little to find it went in a little further than the first. I’m think I hit the mark so I put the clip in and then pulled on the cable a little just to make sure it was snug in there. But to my surprise or maybe I pulled too hard it came out. Well I guess what also surprised me is that there is only one cut on the “tube” so due speak on the transmission. I would think there would be at least two because of the shape of the clip. I decided to “install” it anyways and try to look up as much as I could in the mean time. My question is… Does it sound like I installed it right? I know overall it’s not too hard but…

I had to do this to my 93’ Rs shortly after I bought it, and found out I love electric VSS’s. It wasent that bad until you have to fish the cable though the firewall.

This is a very good write up! Even with the broken picture links I got everything done listening to it other then getting the cable through the firewall. I tried a going firewall first, tying it to the old cable and trying to pull it through, non of that worked. I ended up taking off the rubber gromet that connects to the firewall and putting it through from behind the cluster area, putting it through that metal piece and into the plastic loop through the firewall above it. I lost the clip but shoved in the cable and used a coolant line to wedge it down. No problems so far.
