Returning member build thread

Hello g2ic, I have been away for a looooooong time, but thanks to my wonderful wife I am once again the owner of a g2. It started about a month ago when I acquired a b18a for free, previous owner said it blew a head gasket and he didnt want to deal with it. I am still currently conntemplating what to do with the b18a, the plan at this moment is to strip it down and build it up with the intention of going turbo, but at this point I might just focus on getting the car on the road…

When I got the motor my wife asked I believe in her words said, “well, what the hell do we do with that?!” It was at that time that I sat her down over a nice dinner and explained to her the nostalgia and prestige that is everything g2. I told her of my previous 3 g2’s that I have owned and my adventures that have come from being apart of such a wonderful saga. Apparently she took my stories to heart and surprised me a week before xmas by purchasing me a 90 LS with no motor in it to have as a project build (Yes its true, I do have the best wife in the world).

So now I have a motor, and a car, sure they are both a little rough around the edges but thats what projects are all about  I am writing out the plan for this build but its will be some what of a resto-mod kind of build. The suspension will be built as if this were going to be a track car. The interior will be a mix of clean and race inspired performance, not a total gutted race beast, but more of a mullet theme… business in the front, party in the back. The exterior is currently in rough shape with a really crappy silver paint job, so I will be concentrating efforts here first, prepping the body for a fresh skin… I am leaning towards a satin white finish but my opinions can be bought

Lastly will be the motor, I say this now but I am in no hurry to get this on the road. I want to build the car right and do not want to rush things.

If you have read all of this kudo’s to you! You are committed and I invite you to join me on my adventure. I will update everytime I make some kind of progress, but I have some starter pictures to give you an idea of what I am working with. Please feel free to comment, bitch, bicker, pat me on the back or anything else along the way.

Most of all I am soooo glad to be back in a g2, and if anyone in nor-cal, specifically Chico, is on here feel free to hit me up, my garage is always open for g2 owners.

Congrats man! And let the fun begin!

Thumbs up

Nice to see another build, and from a member who has been around for a while… welcome back to G2!

A nice stock-rebuild, with some ARP goodies, would be a low-cost setup that could handle decent boost… and you could plan cam/valvetrain/head work later down the road for some good power.

That would at least get you on the road reliably, while you save up for the turbo stuffs.

Subscribed! Definitely looking forward to see what this turns into.

Welcome back and thumps up to your wife. You are lucky. I have been trying to get my wife on board with me getting back into a g2 project for a while. I had my first one back in high school in 97 and sold it in college regretting it to this day. I have always had plans to get another one (before the wife) but life has gotten in the way. I am now at the point where I can get back into one and have a few options. I found my original one I sold about 3 hours away in Tennessee with the same guy I sold it to. He has only put 38k miles on it since I sold it to him in 03 but it has a total of 293k mi on it. Its a 92 GS still in good condition. I can buy my buddy’s 91 LS with GSR interior for $900 with unknown mileage bc it has a GSR cluster and no exhaust with rough original faded and oxidized paint. Or, I can buy this 92 stock GSR with a fresh $2500 aztec green paint job. for $3k. It has 165k mi on it but it just had a minor accident. The owner says that it rolled down the hill at his house and hit a tree messing up the front bumper and bumper support and it also bent the bottom of the rad support. I have a bumper and bumper support in my garage and the rad support is not all that bad so I was leaning towards that.

With all that said, the wife is not on board with any of it.

 Holy mother of god!!! nice to see you aaron. you and project car seem to go hand in hand:)

btw congrats on getting married bro

LOL, thanks Ryan, you know me!

No big updates thus far, just trying to lick my wounds from dealing with the holidays (they are a little more expensive when kids are involved, lol). I have spent most of the last couple weeks just developing my plan of attack as the intention of this build is a complete restore of the whole car. So the plan goes as such:

  1. Strip all interior out of car
  2. Remove all suspension, clean, powdercoat reinstall with all new bushings. Exact suspension setup still to be determined…
  3. Prep and paint car while interior and suspension is removed… Still working on color and overall theme of the car… those that know me know I tend to gravitate towards flashy colors and visions of grandeur, but I am leaning towards a more conservative layout. I want to do championship white, keep the moldings black, and some kind of black/graphite wheel. Interior I would like to do red carpet with all black interior and black recaros with red stitching. I am open to suggestions however
  4. While all this is going I will be having the LS rebuilt with some mild improvements.
  5. The big hang up will be money for suspension but at this point the car will be ready to be put back together and hopefully get it on the road.
  6. Seeing as how California sucks my main focus needs to be getting it smogged, then I have two years to do whatever I want with the motor.
  7. The stock rebuild will have the intentions of having mild boost, but for now I want to have a strong running well built car.

This car will not be a daily driver, and its primary focus will be to have fun on weekends, spirited canyon runs, g2 meets etc. So anyway progress will be slow at first but ill be documenting with pics along the way.

PS Ryan if you see this can you email or call me? I have a business related question for you… allnutt.aaron@gmail.com / 530.514.six6five2

Nice start, looking forward to updates. I though you were another blade silver teg owner until i saw the sunroof.
