reusing a barely used timing belt/waterpump etc

long story short;
at a local road race event, my faster-than-expected oil burning motor pushed into a long sweeping right hander and blew its recently serviced-self into oblivion. i recently had the timing belt and water pump changed and some other irrelevant external seal/gasket maintenance done.

could i reuse the timing belt, tensioner and water pump from that recent service (less than a few thousand miles) on my new motor or are certain parts a once-you-install-it-thats-it sorta thing? i know im shit outta luck for the seals and gaskets (theyre all only 50 bucks anyway) but id like to save some cash and reuse these parts if i could, as i have no idea how many miles are on my new motor and a timing belt/seal service could probably do it some good.

thanks in advance.

Being that you know the history of the belt and tensioner and pump… I would say you’re ok to reuse the parts, how do you feel about reusing them? Comfortable? Iffy?

I really dislike when people buy a used timing belt or tensioner from someone and use that on their setup because of so many ‘unknown’ factors that are present…

But a belt can be removed/reinstalled without problem. Its not a ‘once-you-install-it, thats-it’ kind of thing.

This is all in my personal opinion… lets see what others say.

edit But it also depends on what kind of engine failure happened… did the whole motor seize up? If so I probably wouldnt re-use the belt. If it just developed a knock, or threw a bearing or something then I’d feel comfortable re-using it. More info on the damage please.

sure. i did. :rimshot:

it developed a major tick and then failed to even try to start afterwards (no turn at all), but can be turned by hand using a big wrench, which i find odd. i havent opened it up to really see what happened.
when i removed the exhaust manifold, there were small pieces of metal debris in the exhaust port of the #3 cylinder and inside that runner of the manifold.
no idea what happened.
i found a P8R B20 for 300 dollars (i dont think he, or even the previous owner knew what it was) and if im reading the head stampings correctly, its about 12 years old. that puts it right about late for a timing belt, water pump and a seal job anyway, if the OEM maintenance schedule was followed. cant hurt, right?
i guess the belt could be ruled out, and i guess i should open the old motor up and see exactly what happened, as i might have metal debris in the water system and would rule out using any of that shit either.
