Review of Tsudo exhaust for DA......

Alright, I am selling the car in a couple of months but needed a new exhaust (130K miles on the stock one and cat) so I went with the Tsudo catback and Catco cat. It was alot cheaper than a custom exhaust from a local shop.

So, I got the exhaust on the car, everything lined up for the most part. Had to bend the rear hangers alittle so that the tip sat straight instead of leaning toward the pass side of the car. The mid-pipe to rear section was a pain in the ass. They didn’t include actual bolts to hook them together with. So, had to make a run to Checker. Ended up getting some coarse threaded bolts and lock-washers from there.

Got that straightened out and bolted up. Then, I get the cat out of the box. Bolt it on and, SHIT! There is a 3" section of empty space between the cat and the exhaust. So, I make a call to the local muffler shop. Head up there and they cut the rear pipe on the cat and extended it. They welded the flange back on that came on the cat.

They finished everything up for me. Bolted on the cat, got the 3" section welded and then bolted the exhaust to the cat. I did find 1 other thing while it was at the shop. The rear hander that is right b4 the tip had crappy welds. It had a 1/4" hole in the weld where it didn’t get welded right. So, the shop hit that with the welder and got it sealed up.

I did forget to mention that the “Spring Bolts” that hook the cat to the header broke. They were completely croaded. The dealer had some in stock and they are $12.00 a piece! Then, I had to go and get 2 new nuts because they didn’t have those in stock. Pain in my ass!

Final review is that its not loud at all! Its generally pretty quiet. No raspy ricey sound, no overbearing drone at cruising speeds. I am happy with it, though I will never purchase another Tsudo product again! Like I said earlier though, I’m selling it in a couple months and didn’t want to sink $500.00 into a nice catback.

Hope this helps out fellow DA owners that are looking for an exhaust. The Tsudo IS NOT WORTH IT! To much headache. I have heard great reviews on the GReddy, HKS, Espelir, Tanabe, and RS*R. Look at 1 of those and stay away from the Tsudo and similar brands!

Cheers!

Here is a pic of the finished product. It doesn’t look to bad.

This is the section of the cat that had to be cut and welded. The cat and the exhaust weren’t lined up straight across from each other. The exhaust hund lower.

These are the springs bolts I had to get from the dealer.

These are the bolts I had to get from Checker to connect the mid-pipe to the rear section.

Finally, this is a pic of the rear hanger that had to be re-welded by the shop.

Nice pics, nice review.

Tell us how it sounds in 3 months. I wonder if you’ll burn up the sound deadening in the muffler and it’ll sound raspy - or if it’s a decent soudning system in the long run.

Guess we’ll see. I hope not. If I were going to keep the car I would’ve gone with the HKS Hi-Power. Beautiful piece IMO…

yea mufflers have a “break-in” period regarding how well they sound…but you’re selling it in a few so you dont have to worry about it.

my new OEM got louder, but it sounds better too.

i’ve heard the Tsudo exhaust in person on a DA before. IMO, it was a little loud, but it didn’t sound too bad (though the person had the muffler shop add another 14" resonator, he said)

i definately prefer my GReddy SP2 over the Tsudo exhaust any day of the week. i finally got the chance to hear an RSR on a DA about a week ago, it sounds pretty good, but i’m glad i bought the SP2. the RSR was just a little quiet for my tastes. the Tsudo, however, is noticably louder than my car with the SP2.

i believe this thread also belongs in the “Product Reviews” forum. but i’ll agree, nice review.

i have this cat back on my 90 and i think it was well worth it. i had no problem with installation whatsoever, dc header and stock cat. mine sits alittle towards the passenger side in the back too but oh well. i love the way it sounds, kinda dissapointed when i first put it on since it was so quiet but it broke in alittle and has absolutely no rasp to it at all. you could’ve bought those spring bolts at your local auto parts store in the help section for like $5 for both. only thing i don’t like is how low the muffler sits, i have nuespeed sport springs and it scrapes every once in awhile. i recommend this exhaust cause where else you gonna find 2.5" stainless mandrel bent that sounds great for about $200?

Acutally, I checked with 3 different parts stores on the bolts and they all told me dealer only item. I’m not completely disapointed with it. After all the hassle its not bad, but I still won’t purchase another Tsudo product again.

hey everybody i have had the tsudo exhaust for over a year now and it is still nice and quiet inside the car
i DID have the same problem with the hangers and flanges being off but i ended up cutting out the spare tire well and raising up the wholefloorpan and relocating the muffler about three inches higher to get it off the ground so my system had to get cut up any way – it was really close and i was not raising the car
if i was just putting it on a stock vehicle i WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY PISSED
tsudo is cheap for a reason

we had a tusdo cat back on my brothers old EF and we didnt have to do any mods to it. it fit pretty well and sounded nice from the outside but was really quiet inside the car.
