crap, my post got messed up… continuing on

What’s going on guys? I’m pretty new around here and just got my teg about a month ago, but I’m glad I found this site. Anyways, I just got done rewiring my foglights, it was fairly easy but I encountered a slight problem. I reconnected the battery and tested out my foglights and they worked great! Except now my rear defogger button is screwed up. It will light up whenever I turn on my dashboard lights, but the LED light will not light up when I press the button in. Also, the button will not “lock” in place when I push it. So now I have perfectly working rewired foglights, but I can’t defog my rear window. It doesn’t click into place anymore :frowning: I’m thinking the problem happened when I had to pop the rear defogger switch off, because the first time I tried it, it only popped off the face of the button. I had to jam the butter knife in there a 2nd time in order to get the entire switch out. Like I said, it lights up when I turn my dash lights on, but it won’t click into place and the LED light doesn’t work. Any help would be appreciated, but if not it’s cool because I still have a 3-year warranty on my car through the dealer, and I can bring it in tomorrow. Thanks in advance! Peace…

The button is momentary it will not lock in. When you press it, it will trigger the rear defogger timer circuit in the integrated control unit. The timer activates the rear window defogger relay. That output is what I had you reroute to the fog lights. That output is timed for about 20 to 30 minutes and will shut off requiring you to press to button again when it does.

Originaly I was having you rewire the switch but didn’t take into account that the switch is momentary, so i revised the wiring but must of forgot to revise completely. If I told you to do anything with the switch ignore it, the switch needs to be left alone. the only thing you have to to is reroute blk/grn from relay to the fog lights. Let me know how you wired it because i can’t find the other post.

players f*ck up too

Me bad, I found the post and it was to someone else hooking defroster to reverse lights. My memory is going. Anyway tell me how you wired and hopefully I can help you solve it

Your defogger switch never could lock in place when you pushed it. It so you don’t forget to turn it off and so you don’t always run with your defogger on.When you push the defogger in once, it should light up and when your push it in again it shouold go off. And when you spliced into the defoger wire did you maybe accidentaly cut all the way through it so its not connected now? That could cause the led problem…ok…bye

thanks guys, I think I might know what the problem is now. I think when I was opening the defogger wire and splicing in the foglight wire, I might have cut the wire all the way through, which would explain why my LED light isn’t coming on. Yikes… what do I do now?
