RI DB1 Build. (Slow build and a lot of pictues)

FoUrDoOrWhOrE - Could you explain why?

CG5accord - Id love to but at the moment i dont have the money for it

more pics

Ill have a few more soon! I’m in the middle of debating what I’m gonna do with the motor itself. I’m thinking All motor with Crower 403 cams and stuff like that. who knows. but the exhaust will be on soon! I have narrowed it down to what I’ll be upgrading next.
Pistons, Cam Gears, Camshaft - Crower 403’s, Intake Mainifold, valve springs & retainers

He just wants to hate.

Looking good man!

And regarding the RMS comment ALL manufacturers show RMS and peak. Yes, they use peak to advertise. For what you have you DON’T need an amp your head unit should be just fine.

its coo man n biggie good luck with ur build

thanks man! I’m actually going to be replacing my head unit and my rear speakers soon. thinking maybe Kenwood 6x9, replacing the tweeters and JVC head unit with my old Kenwood one from my old wrangler.

If there still hanging around and i make some $$ soon, ill deff take them off your hands man! and thanks!

Update

Ok small update, got my exhaust on. it sounds so nice. I haven’t really been able to get on it but from what I’ve heard it was a very good purchase. no rice sound here either, deep rumble. but due to crappy weather, I only have this picture.

The side skirts should be on before Fresh 2 Death, this weekend. So I’ll have that picture soon! :cross:

I also decided what my next purchases will be; Crower 403’s, a Skunk2 intake manifold, AEM Fuel rail/fuel filter/Cam Gears. N/A all day.

I haven’t decided which valve springs, retainers and throttle body I’m gonna run, probably OEM valve springs(any input would be greatly appreciated).

update

ok so its been a little since I’ve been on the forums. kinda been busy but not really been busy, if that makes sense. Started school again and picked up a lot of extra hours at work so i could buy books. but before i go any further, picture of the car with side skirts from a civic.

now, lets start talking about my db1 real quick.

So I went to providence, a 15 mile one-way drive; the teg drove fine up there at a constant 80mph. But when I came outside to leave, she wouldn’t start. The lights were really dim inside so I figured it was just the battery on its way out, its almost 4 years old now. So I called AAA for a jump, and while he was there I had him check my battery and alternator; both are in good running shape. Started up fine when we jumped it. This has happened to me before, both ending up with me having to change my Valve seals & valve cover seals due to oil in my spark plugs. This has happened to me 4 times now since I’ve owned the car, which is 2 years. I think it may be my valve cover that is making this happen. I’m thinking the valve cover is bent/warped. The car doesn’t lack any power, but I have a constant small amount of oil in my #2 & #4 plugs.

this is what my #4 plug looked like right when i took it out.

& the others.

I’m looking at this as being the start of my non-vtec all motor build. I just picked up a '99 B18B bare block. it was bore’d to 81.5mm. I have no idea what i will be running inside, i have my ideas but I’m not 100% sure yet. I’m also going to be swapping my transmission to a 5speed. I’m taking the block to get hot tanked soon.

This is what i have in my head so far for my build. I’ve been rethinking it and have A LOT more research to do before its set in stone.
'92 B18a1 Head
'99 B18b1 Block
YS1(ls)
(head gasket)
(pistons, most likely RS Machine, Dome style)
(valve springs " ")
(retainers )
Crower 403’s
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Skunk2 68mm Throttle Body
Toda Cam Gears
Megan Racing Headers
Megan Racing Exhaust
AEM SRI

I also purchased some 6x9’s to replace my 6" speakers in the back. I went with kenwood. I am putting my Kenwood Deck in from my old Jeep, I can tune it a lot better with that deck. I’ve got a pretty decent set up now .

Ive got a bunch more things for the “look” of the car, but those ill have to show with pics and not explain haha :gotpics:

very nice progress  DB1 FTW

Not sure if you’ve priced any of that stuff on your wish list, but the toda gears look like they’ll be a lot more expensive than any other part on your list.

If I were you, I wouldnt waste the money building the engine… its an automatic.

The muffle looks completely out of place, as well.

At least the paint is kinda nice!

are you able to fit the muffler up higher? did you look into thermal rd or an oem like axleback exhaust?

thanks man :)! and i agree, db1 FTW.

i will be swapping to a 5spd as i stated.

I’m also going to be swapping my transmission to a 5speed

I have priced my “wish list” and i know how much everything will be. As stated not everything is set in stone. The exhaust, i personally love it. it needs to be tucked as BlueG2 stated. I just had the guy make the pipes, i will be tucking it as much as i can due to the fact that i hope to slam it. only the tips come out from the bumper, nothing else. but thanks for looking out.

Yea I do agree, my exhaust does need to be tucked. that was the first thing i said to myself when i got it. this exhaust is a exact replica of the OEM exhaust. it just has bigger outlets. I like dual tips, i refuse to put a single tip with a big outlet on my car. Coming from a city were its cool to put “fart” can on your honda, I needed to get something different, and thats where my VW style came in. I am satisfied with the sound that comes out of the exhaust, its a deep rumble and was exactly what i was looking for.

Exact replica of what OEM exhaust? Sure doesnt resemble that of an OEM DB1 exhaust, at least not to me.

that defintely is not an oem replica. the only thing oem about it MIGHT be the dual tips… the exhaust body on the oem does left to right… not front to back… your exhaust is more like an oem for an early 90s accord… this is what the oem exhaust looks like… http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b116/deckster333/9609PicsFalloutFest009.jpg

and this is what an aftermarket catback/axleback looks like for the g2 (exact fit non-universal, which yours is)http://www.mosaicmotorsports.com/revtuners/greddy_sp_crx.jpg

you can try to hide the one you have as much as you can, but it will still look a bit “off”… not bashing you, just saying that it will never look oem

also, the full cat backs with the transverse muffler setups (rsr, greddy, thermal etc), don’t give a fart sound… they sound deep and low… it is the canaster styles that are loud and annoying

I see what your both saying, but this exhaust does the job for me. I know what a oem exhaust looks like, i took it off of the car before i put this one on. The canister on it is the same size as the old muffler. the tips are just bigger etc. i wish i took the picture of it when i had my exhaust on top of my old OEM one. Same size.

these are the exhausts specs.

Dual 3" tips, 2.5" inlet

100% sus 304 stainless steel

Silver Chrome finish

Sound is quiet and deep tone

also it doesnt stick out at all, the picture i have above makes it look like it. so i took two pictures one dead center over my car and one from the side. i thought you guys were talking about the piping that needs to be tucked. The end of the tips meet the bumper where there is a exhaust bend.

I dont understand the issue with my exhaust. It sounds good to me and everyone who has heard it has no issue with it. even members from here have heard it and said it sounded good on the streets and on the highway.

hey gl on the build dude. o and if you need any help when you do the auto 2 manual let me know.

I don’t have a problem with your exhaust. I just said it didn’t fit snug like an oem or an aftermarket full catback specific for our cars would… not that it sticks out too much or the piping is too low etc, more so the body of it from the rear view… imo, and only imo, it looks out of place comapred to how the stock mufflers look running transverse to the car.

+1 I feel the same way.

Good looking car man! I wish I could start on my 5-speed swap on my DB1. But with no job and needing it to get to school, now’s not really the right time haha. And yes, the exhaust does need to be tucked a little, but besides that it looks fine to me. I would definitely take it over my $40 Egay fart can with a deleted cat and two 24" resonators. Luckily, I’m not the one who put that set up on there haha. The all motor build seems like it would be a ton of fun! Keep us posted with what you decide to do.

the only thing I’d do with the exhaust is paint the muffler body black so it doesn’t scream out at you at a glance. Otherwise good looking ride man! looking forward to the manual swap i’m sure!
