,well i have a gsr swap in my 93 integra… non abs. i recently got the swap… before the swap i NEVER had the problem of my axles poping out. their the auto zone life time warranty axles. is it that i just did not install them properly?.. because when i am installing it, i put the new axle inside the tranmission… nice and tight… i even wait to hear it lock inside… and then i realize that it wont reach to the spindel to put the axle nut on… so i have to somewhat STRECH the axle a bit to put the axle nut on… then i tighten it with my air gun. what am i doing wrong?.. i have gone and goteen 3 NEW AXLES THIS WEEK! they all keep poping out! i figured maybe they were giving me the driver side for the passenger side… so this 3rd time i put it i used the driver side for the passenger side… this is a serious problem because the last two axles popped out on me on the freeway!
i installed this 3rd one yesterday… and so far it has not popped out thank god. i hope i will be ok tomorrow. please help what is wrong?.. should the axle have to be streched out a bit to fix the axle nut on?.. can it be the differential in the transmission causing it to pop out like this?
I don’t have the same swap as you do so not sure if it’s the differential or not but what I can tell you is that the axle DOES NOT need to be stretched to fit in the spindle.
It’s actually the other way around… you will have tons of slack from the axle to slip it right into the spindle with no effort at all…
thank you for your input… but now i am wondering if all the axles at autozone just suck! lol i mean even if i do have a gsr in their, the engine is not physicall shorter or longer… nothing should have changed… i might just have to buy some aftermarket axles that are specifically made for engine swaped vehicles.
CAN anyone else confirm that you do not have to strech you’re axles to install them and make them reach the spindel?.. thank you

I’ve bought numerous brand axles from Autozone/Kragen and I can definitely tell you that if you’re given the right ones… they will NOT be significantly shorter to the point where you would have to stretch to fit the spindle.
Oh and if you do decide to buy axles from Autozone/Kragen, always buy new ones and NOT remans… and always stay away from Cardone brands… those axles, new or used will give you lifetimes of headaches… well from my experiences at least…
thank you hybrid90! you were the only one that responded! forty views and no other responds!? YOU BASTARDS! lol well i figured it out… PLAIN AND SIMPLE… AUTOZONE AXLES SUCK!!! i was scared my differential was messing up and simply popping out my axle… because i had already tried 6 different axles from various different autozones all around LA, LONG BEACH, COMPTON, PASADENA! lol im serious! so i ended up calling HMOTORS which is the same place that i bought my JDM B18C. after telling him the story he instantly told me not to use those axles… i bought a brand new one from him for 75. i took out the POS axle from autozone and measured it… it measured at 23 inches and 1/4 then i measured the new HMOTORS axle and it measured at 24 inches and 1/4!!! exactly and inch longer!!! i popped it the new axle and DID NOT have to strech it or anything to make it fit in the spindel and fit the axle nut! its been 3 days of driving around… and no problem… even took it up to the canyon and nothing went wrong!
oh and by the way, the car has WAY LESS vibration with these new quality axles… opposed to the pos shacky autozone ones… DURALAST MY ASS!!! :gunleft::gunleft: DURALAST
Good to hear that everything worked out for you. What brand axle did you buy from HMOTORS? Maybe I will order the same cuz my driver Kragen axle is about to go out… but man… I do love the lifetime warranty the Kragen axles have. It’s just a matter of patience installing them every time you get a bad batch LOL
Theres no autozones in Canada but from what I’ve read on several forums I would never buy any part from that place. Especially axles. Glad you got everything figured out.
yeah i know what you mean red tegra… but my axle had snapped and i needed an AXLE ASAP!.. they were the only ones that had them in stock so i bought it their… i thought i was getting a good deal since they were life time warranty… but all i ever got with them were a lifetime worth of headaches! lol well things turned out ok… when you try cutting short cuts and saving a few bucks, you end up paying more in the long run… so “DO IT ONCE, AND DO IT RIGHT”
and i am not sure what brand axles they are i only got the passenger side since he did not have anymore new driver side… it feels awesome… way better quality than autozone. buy them for sure… you will not regret it
I had to resort to buying an Autozone axle a couple weeks ago late on a Sunday night. It was the first time I’ve bought anything mechanical from there, and needless to say, I’ll never buy another part from them again (I knew better, but needed something to get back on the road). As soon as I took it out on the street there was a nasty vibration that wasn’t there with the destroyed OEM piece. I haven’t bothered to replace it, and it goes away with some driving (almost as if the axle has to warm up ) but Raxles are definitely coming up. On a side note, I bought a set of DSS stage 0 about 5 years and they lasted all that time with no problems (stock motor and suspension for 3/4s of the time). I’d still be running them if it wasn’t for my nasty accident that ripped the driver’s shaft out of the the outer joint!
i didn’t read through the entire thread but i also had one fall out on me. the axle was from a local no-name rebuilder. it worked perfect up till’ i used them in my new swap. i attributed the problem to fatigue in the lockring at the end of the shaft. i was thinking that it could have been the lsd, but that worry was put to sleep by a knowledgeable member.
i did take the shaft in and out quite a few times when doing misc work on the car. i too ended up with a new autozone crap axle since the shop i bought my remanned axles from was closed on the weekend. i now have a slight vibration between 15 and 40 mph
THANK YOU!! This thread helped me alot!!
sorry if already poosted but i broke my passenger side axle at the track and i run orielly lifetime warranty axles well when i broke it auto zone was close and we got one of their lifetime warranty axles and it woulf pop out every mile and my brother and i would have to puill over and pop it back in!! moral of the story is we come to find out that the auto zone axle didnt have a c clamp on the end that goes into the tranny… just just take it bak get ur money and go to an orielly
autozone axles arent the problem, its the retaining clip on the end of the axle
the same thing was happening to me, went to honda and bout oem clips for 3 bucks each and no more popouts!!
seriously watch this though cuz mine popped out on the freeway and smashed a hole in my transmission case
update on my problem… the vibration went away after i re-tightened the bolts on my tranny mount! they were loose.
Every single Oreilys axle I’ve used on any of my DA/DB cars = knocked right out of the box.
Every single Autozone axle I’ve used on any of my DA/DB cars = worked great right out of the box, and lasted right up to whenever a car got wrecked or sold.
With the AZ axles, get BRAND NEW, not RE-MANUFACTURED. Pull the axles out of their boxes while you’re still in the store, check for the clips and the axle nuts…if anything is missing, request an exchange.
Also, I have NEVER been able to get a refund on any Oreilys axle I’ve ever purchased. They don’t take your phone number like AZ does, so there’s NO record of your warranty unless you kept your receipt(well, they don’t do it in my area…not sure about other areas). I don’t keep receipts, but I do 99.99% of my shopping at AZ these days so that’s not a problem for me anymore. AZ rewards card = ftw.
do you by chance know what kind of axle you got from hmotors? i’m having a problem with my axle being too short. i measured it and the one i got is 23.5"
I have boughten axles from auto zone and no problems with them. I have actually broken two though with my ls vtec engine but they swapped it out. The first time I went in there though they sold me the wrong one and it was short like you explained. But I just went back down there and come to find out the wrong axle was in the box…
