Roaming idle

Hey guys,

I appreciate yall working with me through the little problems I’ve had getting this car on the ground and i need a second opinion on my roaming idle.

I’ve been following a troubleshoot guide here - http://www.ef-honda.com/ben/Badidle.php

Now, there is a portion that says to cover the internal ports inside the throttle body to eliminate either the FITV or the IACV. I’ve pulled both and cleaned them both, tightened the expansion valve inside the FITV. However, one thing to note is one of the screws was broken off that hold the adjustment cover plate down when I pulled the FITV. I used some Hondabond to seal it back up because that’s all I had.

However, when plugging the holes, when I cover BOTH holes in the TB, the idle resumes perfectly normal, and when I remove my hand it starts roaming again. If anyone has tested this way before, or help me understand this troubleshooting guide, what did this result prove?

When i unplug my IACV the roaming idle becomes a lot faster as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What happens when you plug just one hole? Top and bottom one at a time?

No change when I plug the bottom hole by itself, its barely drawing any air. I can’t recall if I only plugged the top hole, but I know for a fact with both holes plugged the idle calms down and steadies out.

So I tried swapping with a spare IACV with no change in roaming idle.
