Finally getting around to picking up my ICE again after my other stuff was ripped off. And came across a deal for 2 of these subs, already in a box. I’ve only ever used Kicker subs, and I’m a little ignorant to RF subs. I know the name, but anyone have any dealings with this model? Pros/cons/Comments?
2 ohm mono amplifier at about 500W RMS or
4 ohm stereo amplifier at about 250W RMS per channel or
2 ohm stable stereo, bridged amplifier at about 500W RMS bridged
Sombody check my math. Basically running coils in series and woofers in parallel. Or vice versa, I guess depending on the amplifier choice.
Those woofers seem a bit numb at just 85dB SPL but if it is a deal, go for it.
Personal recommendation that I just picked up myself: Pioneer GM-D510M. Very small, rock solid and overall a very pleasant product. Measures only 10" x 10" x 2".
Essentially I don’t want a system that’s going to make the whole car seem like it’s just subs and nothing else. Want something with a good sound, good “thump” to them. Next step after selecting an amp to go with these subs, is speakers that will be able to handle the highs.
Well i should be able to pick up the 2 of them for $150-$200 or so. Website has them at 179.99 each. So I’m leaning towards these for now, unless someone has some cons to say about them.
Well the setups I told you will simply power the subwoofer adequately, they won’t clip which is pretty important. When underpowering, consequent clipping (amplifier giving up and momentarily shutting itself off to protect the circuitry) causes damage to the voicecoils on ths subwoofer, so just watch out.
You could get something weaker, just make it a pont not to crank it.
Although in my experience with your concerns all you would have to do is just set the crossover lower. It get progressively more difficult to output clean low frequencies the lower you go. Depending on the subwoofer frequency response range, I find that almost everybody I have dealt with sets their crossover too high and experience too much punch in their bass and an abnormally loud 250hz - 100hz range which sounds terrible amd unbalanced.
The worst that happens is that you pay for good amplifiers and protect your subwoofers, that is all I am saying. You can tune down the volume on every amplifier. Besides that amplifier that I was talking about, the one I am using, I got it used for $60 to the door. That is a lot of clean power cramming into a very solid small metal casing for just that much. Just exactly a dollar for each 10W RMS at 2 ohms.
OH i know all about the importance of “tuning” the amp to the subs. Not a problem there. I just am terrible with figuring out what power output on amps i would need to run with a particular sub. Thanks for all the info, much appreciated, and I am going to look into that amp that you suggested too. I’ll probably be running a mono amp with the subs, and save the 4 channel that i’ll be looking at later for speakers. Thanks again!
