Ok so I just installed a new cold air intake system into my 91 integra, and before putting my bumper back on, I decided to test it. So I started it up, and i revved the engine. The throttle and RPM’s shot up to 3000 and stayed their even though I took my foot off the gas. I’m scared me throttle got stuck open. any suggestions as how I can fix this? Or as to why the RPM’s stuck at 3000?
You need to see if it’s the actual throttle cable that is stuck and holding the throttle body open, or if its a sensor controlling the idle.
The throttle cable is easy enough to visually inspect…
If the cable looks ok, disconnect th battery for 5minutes… reconnect it and fire the car up. Do NOT touch the throttle, let the car idle for 10-15min. This lets the computer ‘learn’ and adjust to the amount of air coming into the motor… it’s a type of re-programming the ecu.
After that, you should be ready to go.
ok, but man im only 2 minutes into the 10-15 minute idle…and the teg is having a hard time dipping below 1000RPM idle
It’s almost at 500RPM…
never mind i let it idle at 500 rpm for like 20 minutes and it didnt die. so i revved it up to 2500 and the rpms went back down to 500.
That’s a little low, it should be at 750rpm.
But that’s better than 3,000rpm, eh?
Yea, you were right my ECU just needed time to adjust. The car runs fine now
