Running Rich??? Help.

Ok. Facing a slight problem. To start off, my teg is running flawless. Getting 26-35mpg. (26mpg with heater on; all city, and 35mpg all highway no heater).
I seafoamed my engine out, then put in 10w-30 pennzoil platinum sythetic oil.
I’ve noticed that my exhaust shoots what looks like unburnt oil/fuel? on the ground. I’ll let it idle in my garage, and after its warmed up, i’ll notice little black spots on the cement that look like the came from exhaust. (Kinda like how when you put water in your muffler, and rev it and see the water shoot and leave splashes on the ground in the angle of your exhaust is positioned.)

I get a carbon build up all over my bumper after a month or so of not washing the car. Seems as though I might be running rich? Or could it be since the pennzoil i’m using has cleaning agents and is still shooting out carbon. I find it weird because i know there can’t be anything wrong with my car. I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this… But could there be something I might need to check?? Any advice would be awesome.

just to get it out of the way.

are you running anything aftermarket on the fuel system.

are you sure its not just condensation spiting out the exaust, its probly not to cold out there in cali

As far as fuel system goes, no. It might be. But i’ve never seen black condensation before. cuz the whole inside of my N1 canister is covered in carbon. so i don’t know.

I do not know what is causing this problem but i had the same issue with my motor (usdm b18a1), and it was a strong runner with no smoke or oil leaks. I swapped in a jdm b16 and have noticed that this engine does not do that.

honestly it sounds like your car is normal and if you have a canister style muffler you will be more prone to develop that black sooty substance on your bumper it also depends on the position of the muffler tip.

Yeah i figured that. My bumper doesn’t turn black anymore, as i got rid of the canister style muffler. Went to a Magnaflow muffler and did a 2.5 inch angle cut tip. And I had it positioned to stick out a little bit farther out.

good to hear man how do you like that magnaflow.

i like how its quiet when i cruise. and i like how it sounds somewhat throaty when i hit WOT.

sounds good im thinkin of gettin a new exhaust just tryin to get ideas

that’s cool. If you do go with the magnaflow, re-do the piping from the cat, to the tail pipe in 2.5 inch piping. and get one of those magnaflow high cats, and keep a resonator. I think that would sound really nice. Overall, the resonator is probably the best thing to keep.

nice good to know thanks man:rockon:

Just to reiterate, that black soot is really common, and does not mean you’re running rich. Checking your plugs is a much better gauge of mixture. And if you’re running a pretty modified engine you should be using an engine tuner anyway and they will sort that out.

Alright. Cool. Thanks for the little clarification. I think now it’s just a matter of me having a heavy ass foot. XD And nah. no heavy mods, if any. Just a ram air mod to stock box with k&n drop in filter, magnaflow exhaust, and exedy stage 1 clutch with new flywheel. No where near heavily modified.
