anyone try the “roll on” paint job on their DA?
if so whats the best way?
Best way is to roll it on…
Best way and roll on paint job shouldn’t even be in the same sentence lol
I did a semi gloss and it turn out just fine … It’s just a lot of work but if you got patience and good fingers to sand it will pay off
I saw someone painting a van purple with a paint roller in Austin, TX once. I think it was just house paint though…
I would do Maaco before roll-on.
the best way isnt to roll it on, the best way is to spray it…comes out with almost no orange peel…and i wouldnt do maaco before rusto. jus tmy opinion though…
i would do a real paint job before both though…
I’m starting my “50 dollar paint job” tomorrow actually… It’s really just an experiment so Ill let you know my results. That and Im doing it one body panel at a time so we will see.
Member Dallasmotorsports did his in white and to be honest it came out pretty nice. It would look a lot better if he would of finish and did all the fine deatails that come after paint itself!
Well if rustolem is what your set on useing, I would recommend at least buying a cheap gun and shooting it. You could even use a wagner paint gun. http://www.homedepot.com/Wagner/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1le/R-100661262/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 The orange peel would be horrible though. If you watch Extreme 4X4 on Spike, there was a episode where Ian painted a duece and half the same way. If you are dead set on rolling it, a foam roller would work the best. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100572117/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053. Just be sure to lay it all off in the same direction.
you can roll on for sure
but if you want it to look good make sure you prep the body ie sanding all the old paint off, and cleaning the panels before you paint them, i like to use rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces
once your done painting if you wet sand the paint to smooth it out, then buff the paint job you will be very happy with it, if your gonna spend the time to do it i say do it right
The idea is to wet sand between every coat, and roll on a ridiculous number of coats. Somewhere around 6 or 7 IIRC. It’s cheap but it’s a ton of work.
Also, a major issue with the common Rustoleum black is that it doesn’t have the UV inhibitors that a dedicated automotive paint would so the finish will turn dull and chalky before too long. White seems to work better in that respect. There is a boat paint that can be rolled on using the same method as the Rustoleum, but is much more durable. This is all pretty well-documented on the web.
dude, really…thats somethin a mexican would do! lmfao really
You are hilarious. Look at you being self-deprecating and pointing out something a stupid racist Texas redneck would say. Good thing we all know you aren’t actually an asshole racist and were just playing like one for the sake of political activism. Go you – way to point out how racism is still thriving in this country.
I found a thread on Civic EG forum that the guy did his hatch with paint he rolled on. Came out really good. I didn’t like the color but the fact he rolled it on was interesting because I had never seen it done. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to do it and have it look just as good as any other paint job. Some companies paint the sides of houses with brushes and some use spray guns. Same goes for interior paint. I don’t see why both can’t be done for car paint. Just my .02
I can’t believe you are comparing painting a car to painting a house. Roll on paintjobs are for people who don’t care about their cars, sorry if it upsets you but that’s how i feel. I guess me being a paint and body guy makes me feel this way.
buy a gun, thin the shit out of the paint, spray it, wetsand between coats and give it a good buff. i just did mine in sunrise red. havent buffed it yet but it looks pretty damn good for being so cheap. just take your time and remember that if you ever want a real paintjob its gonna be extra work bc you cant paint over the rusto with automotive paint. btw the ONLY reason i did the rusto job was because i literally have no money and my car had a half assed paint job as it was. i wouldnt paint it black though because black is easiest to see imperfections as it reflects the least light. if you pick a lighter color it will look better.
