s1 and ys1 differences?

Well my 3rd and 5th in my ys1 tranny where grinding pretty bad before my TOB went out, and I got another tranny just for good measure, the seller told me the tranny has 31,600 miles on it when they took it out. Only difference I notice on this trans was the barcode read s1 instead of ys1 like my current tranny. What’s the difference between the 2, does the s1 just have longer gears or what?

gear differences: depends if you got the LS s1 or the b16a1 s1…most likely LS though, they are much more common. big difference…you will need a clutch kit for a 90-91 integra, splines are different, so your clutch won’t fit on it, so don’t even try, you will waste your time putting that tranny on your clutch, and maybe even risk stripping the splines on your current clutch.

so should I just give the seller back his trans and just put the clutch in and hope the it doesn’t grind or what. when I first got the car a few months ago it never grinded 3rd or 5th and as I started to hear the Throw out bearing make noisei I noticed the trans started to grind, so do you think if I just replace the clutch the grinds would go away?

depends how much you grinded it. if you damaged the synchros, it’s possible your tranny is a lost cause. if your clutch was just very finished and you didnt grind it much, it may be fine. but as for the other tranny you bought, if you already need a new clutch anyways, and you already got that one, just keep it and order a clutch kit for 90-91 integra. if your clutch is new and you give him back the tranny, try find a short geared ys1 tranny from and JDM warehouse, you will have some fun
