Just wondering if anyone had a few pics of a satin black da (rat rod flat black) I was thinking about painting my car this color since every person in town quoted me more than 1500 dollars to paint my car. Im not using rattle cans either… I was thinking about buying a hot rod flatz kit and having my friend spray the car… He has sprayed a few cars before with great results. My car is already primered I just need to get a new front bumper and hood!
This is he best I can do for you homie.

this is the best i can get for you right now, i think i put up a couple others on other threads, but i’ll try get better ones when i get home:
Flat and satin are 2 totally different looks.
well the hot rod “flatz” kit I am looking at is more of a satin look as far as the website says… can anyone recommend a good “satin” paint? And thanks for the pics guys!
I have one that looks good if u want a pic. Just gotta see where the pic is at. And u can have a flat paint job, most of what u see is just BS spray can shit. U can use any color and put flat clear over it. Looks nice. Google flat blue evo and u will see how nice a flat paint job can be.
Keep in mind that having a flat paint job is nice, but has its downsides as well. U cant wet sand and buff a flat paint job or it will shine. Certain things on the surface like bird poo and such can also create stains or marks in ur paint. U get the idea. Depending on what u use, which if it is not clear coated the sun will beat the hell out of it. Regardless of what u use if it isn’t clear coated the sun will fade it out like a original 93 accord paint job looks now. Just things to keep in mind.
^^^ yup, i don’t have pics of when i originally, but over the last year everything that got on the paint stained into it and well now it’s not the same, and in that pic it was taken in the dark, so it looks kinda gray… i like the look, but i’m over it now
Yea my friend and I are just tossing out ideas right now… I might just paint it back to red. I really want sepang bronze metallic. Its a color I dont see on DA’s but thats some $$$ But I also like silver too

I was also looking through some hot rod forums and they were talking about bird poop stains/ bug stains/fading and they actually said that with a satin paint job, to get rid of stains use lemon Pledge and it will take the stains right out of the car while conditioning the paint so this might be do able!
IMO, satin only looks good on muscle cars. be it domestic, euro or japanese.
a DA would have to be pretty bad ass to pull it off nicely
just my .002

Tru! I totally respect that opinion and I have been thinking that too, thats why I havent done it yet. I just dont know if I wanna dish out 1500 dollars to MAACO to do my car… That seems a little high especially for them, and it was for the presidential paint job so I know that crap wont look good at all. I might try painting it white since I heard it the easiest to paint idk… money is just tight right now with bills and me trying to get back into college and stuff and Im sick of having a primer grey da with a red hood. The only thing that looks good on my car are my SSR’s
the car’s already prepped? should be cheaper then. pull every possible molding, light and trim piece off first though. will make a huge difference in your end result. plus should save a bit of coin that way as well
but wait. wait till you have enough to do it right the first time. trust me.
1500$ should be enough to get it done somewhere decent if you pull everything off yourself.
personally, i never go for color changes. it’ll always show somewhere. or it’ll cost you up the whazoo to do it right

Yea the car is already prepped, but not by choice. I bought the car like that. It sat for a while so now its got surface rust and a good bit of rust on the rear passanger fender well that I need to address. I might just reprime the whole car. The guy did a good job on all the door jams and rear hatch. he shaved the antenna and rear emblem holes. I really just need a new hood and front bumber and a paintjob, lower it and have fun. Im just wondering if it would be cheaper just to buy a clean shell and swap over parts lol
well, that depends on what you paid for the car. but yeah, it’ll most likely need to be primed again. how bad is the rust? multiply whatever you can see by 4.
i hate rust. it’s usually an premonition that you’ll be fighting with seized and rusty bolts every time something needs to be replaced.
from what i can see, it doesn’t look too shabby. could probably get away with just wetsanding the primer that’s on there. hard for me to say though.
take it to a few places. have a look at what they’re currently working on and compare prices and quality. wait until after they give you a price, and then ask how much they’d knock off if you pull all the trim. haggle a bit. places like maaco don’t really have any wiggle room as their prices are pretty much set
I wish I could start with the body work now but it has been raining all week long. It’s driving me crazy lol
really doesn’t look bad, but pics don’t show much. Just comb over it looking for dings and such. Matter of fact, u could just guide coat it and look for any imperfections and reprime it again. I’ll post that pic u want of a flat integra when I find the usb I put it on before I painted it.
And ya there are little tricks u can do, but really just need to get Flat Clear. PPG makes one. It’s pricey. I shot a bike frame with it and I’ll give u pics of that if u want. And I would paint a car for 1500 so find someone that does good work and have them paint it. Maaco just doesn’t sit well with me. I believe if they will do a $300 paint job then they will do some of the same things to your 1500 paint job. Meaning they will half ass some shit just cause they use to doin it.lol Find a reputable local guy.
