Okay, so a few days ago I began hearing this loud scraping sound, as if a plastic skid plate is dangling from below my car and dragging on the ground, but I have no skid plate and I have nothing dangling under my car. This only occurs when I’m either taking a semi-hard to hard right turn, going over bumps in the road (seems to “scrape” at the top of the bump), or when I am braking. It’s weird because it doesn’t happen every time I brake, and it doesn’t happen everytime I turn. It seems like the engine must be warmed up for this to happen also, and the sound is coming from the front of the car, although I have not bee n able to tell if it is coming from the engine or not. It just really sounds like it’s something at the very front of the car (again, like the back bolts of a skid plate are missing and the back of the skid plate is dragging under the car). Can anyone help me?
p.s. I did a search and it seemed anyone else with scraping said it happened at braking, and mine is not just braking.
this may not be posted in the right area, but i had something like this, it ended up being the distributor. it wasnt as much a scraping sound as it was more like grinding. it randomly happens, hope this helps. may be totally off topic though…
I don’t think it’s from the distributer because it’s not necessarily comepletely random times, it’s braking, turning, and over bumps. Also, if it helps it’s a bone stock 91 GS
i’m at stock ride height, and on stock wheels. i did just get my car back from the body shop because of an accident which smashed the entire front of my car including the right fender. New hood, AC, Radiator, Fan, fender, etc etc. I’ve had the car back for abotu two weeks and it’s just started doing this.
then again my car is dumped and on 15’s. but its my plastic guard. it got loose out of the bolts and now it dangles. sometimes it sounds like metal scraping and one time i even saw sparks shoot out. good times!
