So I need some major help. I am installing a sedan rear handle on my passenger door. I followed the the Teg tip exactly. I have the handle connected to the rod and in the door, but when I pull the handle, it doesn’t move far enough to release the door.
So…has anyone else done this to their car? How the hell did you get this to work? It doesn’t look like the striker is adjustable to me…maybe it is?
I really can’t see how I could have drilled the hole wrong as there is not much room to begin with. Like I said I followed the teg tip exactly, down to the hole location and it seemed to work for him. So I’m out of ideas.
I have done this on the passenger side about a year ago. I did not use the teg tips. I googled it and found someone that did it on a DA, not sure of the site and it could have linked me here but I forgot. I do remember I used the drivers side handle for the passenger side. I had to drill a hole and move the white female plug thing for the rod. I couldn’t open the door at first and had to keep taking on and off for adjustment until it started to work. It was kind of a pain but in the end it worked perfect. I will check the teg tips and see if it similar to the one I went off. http://www.nzintegra.com/shavedlocks.html
I found this site when searching this forum. It doesn’t say anything about swapping sides, drivers side to passenger. I know I had to and it worked out. I hope this helps. I read that someone said it won’t work if you do it like the teg tips says. I did it just like the link I posted.
Well I did swap the sides, so that’s not the issue, but it’s strange, the rod in his pictures look like they offer more adjustment that mine will. My rod does not look like that at all. Maybe those are power doors locks?
I also drilled my hole right in the center of that crease and his is just past it. fuuuuuuck me. I guess I will have to mess with again and possibly get another handle and try again.
The rod in the pics are different than mine too. I don’t have power locks. Maybe it’s like you said, he could have power locks. I will see if I can take pics of mine. I think my panel is still off.
What is your email? I was able to take pics from the top with the window down. They aren’t the best but they might help out. I really don’t wanna take it apart since it works perfect. It was a hour or so of work to get it to open right. I almost gave up.
I’m at the point now where I am going to weld a little bracket onto it, or try to dis-assemble the stock handle and switch the part where you pull somehow. Annoying!
It does start to drive you crazy. I only had a rear passenger handle and was going to try that before I knew I needed a drivers side. I was going to try and fab something up to get it to work but decided to go to pick n pull and get the driers side one. I’m sure there is a way you can make a bracket and get it to work. Maybe a little piece of flat metel and through bolt it to the hole that you made, angle it a little and then drill a hole in the flat metal piece for the white plug thing. If you noticed in my pics I was at the end of the threads anyways. It would leave you with more threads for adjustment.
I looked at your pics again and noticed you have that little metal head almost coming off the threads. On mine it seemed like I had to thread it all the way down to even get it close to working. I’ll have to go mess with it again tonight for a little bit.
Yeah. I don’t have much adjustment left but it’s still all good. I started with the rod a bit higher but after all the adjusting I ended up with it at the end of the threads.
