shaking during accel

there should be no play in the axle where it locks into the transmission

Well I’m having a tiny play in the passenger side where it locks into the tranny. I figured it can be the differential Carrier bearings worn or the carrier itself.

The last guy i got the tranny from boosted it. There is no grind at all and its the jdm s1 cable tranny.
Wonder if it could still be the new napa axles i got for the passenger side otherwise something is shaking the hell out of the axles during certain rpm/mph.

according to honda, and just about every front wheel drive car manufacturer, a small amount of play is normal. you will not find a car with no play.

ok… i am taking my car to a good shop to have this problem diagnosed this week. i’ll post any findings. if the guys at this shop can’t figure it out, then no one ever will except by shotgun method.

oh, i noticed that if i drive the car around long enough to get everything good and hot. then hose the front wheels down with cold water, the vibration goes away temporarily. this is why i think it’s a wheel bearing. i did have to replace one side, so the other side may be having a problem too. anybody else here tried watering the wheels?

blown strut?

alright, the mechanic said that the problem was the passenger side axle. which i have already replaced with a brand new one, but apparently it wasn’t a good new one. the mechanic said it looked like a re-manufactured axle though. i told him i would do it myself . he told me what brand they usually buy and that they haven’t had any problems with them. napa carries it, but they don’t have very many of them. they had to ship mine from somewhere back east. i don’t remember the brand right now, but i will post it here once i get it and see if it’s a good part.

it cost me about $100 plus $18 for shipping.

My car slightly vibrates on 2nd and 3rd gear only. And it still did that before and after I replaced the axles.

Modu03- I’m thinking of my wheel bearings too. It humms when I slow down to a stop but no vibration. Like I said, only in 2nd and 3rd accel does it vibrate. You said you might change the bearings on the other side. Let me know if that worked.

bump

 why the hell would my car shake after changing the pass drive axle?!!! Its been one thing after another with this car and I have had it!!!

reman or new axles? buy new ones if they were remans.

I got mines new at napa for 69.95 a piece its about 70-80

reman is still about 70 which is stupid

alright, i replaced my axle. the problem has not gone away. however, you can tell this is a better axle just by looking at it and it fits much snugger into the tranny.

i am gonna take the car back to the shop and make them figure this problem out. if they can’t i will just take it to the honda training center and let them figure it out. the teachers there worked in the dealership for 15 years plus. they usually only charge $20 for diagnostic and they will keep working on it until they figure it out. of course the students do the work, but the teachers watch when they are dealing with a customer car.

my other option is replacing the strut rod bushings, which i already ordered, and the other wheel bearing. i noticed some grease coming out of the new wheel bearing, this means there is probably something wrong with that bearing as well. or maybe that is the problem in the first place.

and one more option is to check the castor, i skipped this when i aligned my car because it is pretty much non-adjustable. i may have to install an accord adjustable strut rod. castor can cause a problem like this.

i’ll figure it out one way or another and get back to you when i do. it might be awhile though.

I fixed my vibration problem today :). Here’s what I did.

  1. Changed axles with new ones from Autozone. Vibration still present.

  2. Exchanged axles for new ones and put them in again. Vibration still present.

  3. Changed tie rod ends. Vibration still present.

  4. Balanced tires and got an alignment. Vibration still present.

  5. Replaced passenger side transmission mount with new from Acura. Vibration still present.

  6. Replaced driver side motor mount with new from Acura. VIBRATION GONE!!

Whew, boy am I glad. It cost me about $550 in parts to fix this problem. I will try to upload some pictures of my replaced motor mounts, they are shot!

ouch $550? If they were shot if u looked close enough or something u would of saw this.

usually a crack line in mounts u cant see but if u have it in park or e-brake and try to drive as someone look at it u would probably see it. The side mounts i am not sure since this reflects more to turning.

Will the mounts show signs of cracks if its bad or it won’t show at all if it is bad?

Yes, there will be cracks in the rubber. On one of my mounts The rubber webbing was completely shot. It wasn’t obvious to me because I’ve never seen what a bad mount looked like before. I’ll try to get some pictures up.

i have replaced all the engine mounts because 2 were completely torn apart. it did nothing for my vibration. i will soon be replacing my intermediate shaft along with the driver side axle. i have already replaced this axle, but noticed alot of play where it connects to the intermediate shaft. and the bearing in the intermediate shaft is not smooth. after i find one of these shafts in the junk yard and replace the bearing on that shaft and the axle, then the only thing left that can cause this vibration is the wheel bearing.

this is a good place to get your axles, don’t buy the remans though, buy new (ultra-8) http://www.altrom.com/cdn/partscatalog/partsDetails.aspx?CarMakeCode=ACURA&CarMakeName=ACURA&CarModel=INT2&CarModelName=INTEGRA&CarComp=CV%20JOINT%20AND%20DRIVE%20TRAIN&CarCompValue=0600

i haven’t figured out how to order directly from them, but you can order from napa http://www.napaonline.com

Keep us updated if the wheel bearing thing worked.

Engine mount pictures uploaded as promised. The first two are before and after pictures of the passenger side mount. You can see in the last picture how bad my driver’s side mount was.:stare:

Why does the new mount look like its torn or ripped on the edges?

It’s not torn. New mounts have a thin film that covers the rubber. It flakes and falls off eventually.

i have an intermediate shaft from the junk yard, and am trying to replace the support bearing, but am having trouble finding anyone who sells them. the nearest dealership is 100 miles or so away and they want $47 plus $16 for shipping. i am trying to do this as cheaply as possible. anybody know who sells this bearing.

i have been to napa and autozone, it’s not even in their computer or their books.
