shaking during accel

Ok this all started when my axle went out. Then replaced it and had lots of other problems. So far this is what I have ruled out.

Ball joints, both replaced
tire rod ends, both replaced
tire balance is good along with the tires
Tightened up motor mounts (innovative)

I can’t seem to figure out what it is. I was thinking when I changed the tire rod end I might have made the wheel bearing bad from driving on it for 2 days with it pointing in the wrong direction (not aligned).

Shook a lot more before I tightened the motor mounts. Before I left some stuff not fully tightened, but now I know it’s all tight and aligned and it still shakes significantly under load during accel. On the highway it’s fine though??? slow accel isn’t too bad, but definenlty giving it gas gives me vibrations.

I was also considering the cheap axles, but I replaced the driver’s side again just to kinda rule it out. They are cheap remans though. Maybe the half shaft? It does have a little play in it, but didn’t seem to be abnormal? I’m kinda stumped and tired of replacing stuff without fixing the problem…even though it definently needed the stuff replaced. What do you guys think? Seems to be coming from the drivers side. I was considering finding some oem honda axles. anyone know where to get them for a good price? Know this is a lot to read so sorry about that.

Cheap reman axles or intermediate shaft bearing is my guess.

i have been having the same problem… currently have replaced both axles and intermediate shaft, all motor mounts(2 were torn) and installed ES mount inserts, both outer tie rods, one wheel bearing, and realigned by me so i know it was done right. i have been checking everything on that car and everything seems to be in perfect shape.

i really don’t like taking my car to a shop, but this seems to be the only way i am ever going to figure out what is wrong. i have had this problem for over 8 months now and it’s starting to get worse. there have been several posts from different people about this problem.

has anybody figured this out yet?

if they have, it would be nice to here from you on this subject.

mine still does it a little, but it seems to be going away. I’m changing wheel bearings soon, but I can’t seem to figure out why it shook so bad before. Tightening up my motor mounts helped a lot though.

i put a post up about this acouple weeks ago as well. im thinking some kind of worn out suspension bushing maybe, but ive found no play anywhere yet.

Make sure the straight shaft portion of the drivers side axle is securely bolted on. If thats wobbling around its like having another cv joint thats out of control and the drive line is flexing. Also check the lower control arm braces for slop which would allow the wheels to move front to rear.

I have made a post about the reman axles bearing housing being shorter than all oem and new napa ones i have compare them too.

Your bearings are worn or loose and its probably wobbling inside the housing and if u look closely the housing where the bearings sit can fall out if turn too much

ive got abs axles in a non abs car, think it matters?

from the look of it no it shouldnt be a problem becoz its just the extra grooves they make around it and if it is balanced then its the same.

i replaced both both of my axels after i replaced 1 and it defected my mechanic said both were no good so i got 2 new installed for like $400 problem totaly fixed

so it was the axles then and not wheel bearings or bushings or anything?

anybody checked the radius rod bushings? mine have a little more play than i would like to see, i’m gonna go ahead and replace them.

i am pretty sure that my axles are not the problem. they are both brand new napa axles and the vibration was there before the axles were replaced and remained unchanged after they were replaced. the only thing left in the driveline to be replaced is the driver side wheel bearing and the radius bushings.

Keep us posted Modu03 on your quest to rid yourself of the damn vibrations. I am on the same journey, and with no money, must suffer for awhile.

Might someone ask what trans are we talking?

my car has the same problem. I just replaced the outer tie rods. today and it still shakes. took it to the mechanic and said that both axles were fine but had little play. i have energy suspension inserts in the front and back. both left and right mounts are done. so gonna have those mounts replaced tomorrow. this shit only happens on the freeway at about 50 and up.

Would be nice to know WHAT TRANS are we talking about! Some trans have problems that might be conceived as axle/knuckle bearing problems. Also would be nice to know if certain probs are inherent to certain trans.:stare:

i have a 90 teggy so i guess its a S1. shakes under hard acceleration from about 20 to about 40 mph.

Iam also having the same problem with my 1992 integ with xsi swap all of my mounts were going out and my axles just started popping so replace axles the mounts and i thought it fixed it but i got on it just one good time in 2nd (vtec hittin yo!) and then it progressively started again…Mine only does it under load as long as i dont have the clutch in or whatever (any kind of throttle) it will pull to the left in one second intervels…I feel like its my axles even though there new i feel like there the problem iam going the jack it up tomarrow and check eveything out please someone figure this out before i go though 18 bizzilion things trying to figure it out myself

i can tell you right now it IS NOT your wheel bearrings, wheel bearrings make a humming noise… it’s the axles that you bought, they are either out of balance or they are not installed properly… one other problem it could be is somewhat serious, the bolts that hold the half shaft could be backing themselves outand under the right situation could cause them to crack the holes on the back of the block and then you would need to have the block machined, its a real nightmare… it happened to my GSR it sucked, but i have also had the axle problem with cheap remans

Is there any chance it might be within the transmission itself. I mean where the axles plug into notice how it wiggles a bit of play even when u have new axles( not remans).

Cause this is what i am having and i figure my S1 b16 the bearings or differential is worn.
What are the chances of new axles being the problem? I get the vibe too only around 55-60mph.
