My friend has an 91 automatic 4 dr. whenever she is in drive and stopped at light in drive the car shakes really bad. i know she need’s new motor mounts, could this cause the problem? she is reluctant to fix them if she isn’t sure thats it, as she doesn’t have much money. any other ideas? thanks!
i just searched and found another thread on the subject. a lot of you suggested adjusting the idle, but when you do that, it only changes it in park or nuetral (so says my friend) so assuming that is true, an idle adjustment wont help. still, any suggestions are appreciate!!
if you tired everything else then it has to be the motor mounts.
Check the front motormount, if its torn replace it and see if it helps. If i remember rite the front mount is only 35 dollars or so. Its pretty easy to install.
I have a 91Ls Auto that shakes in D at a full stop only, it was the front motor mount. Get it on a lift and you will see.

My car was doing that a little while ago also and I was trying to figure out what the problem was. I remembered that the ground off the motor was broken and decided to fix it and it solved my problem. I dunno if this is the case again, but give it a try!

the ground off of the motor. hm where would that be?? so you had the same symptons?? rough idle in drive but not in neutral etc?? and what was wrong with the ground??

Yeah, the ground that goes from the valve cover to the body of the car. Mine was broke. And with the idel, it was rough in Drive, and then would be normal or a little above normal in Neutral.
I’m just about to guarantee that your front motor mount is broken.
Just replaced mine last weekend. Shaking has quiet down some but has not gone away completely. I’m suspecting my rear engine mount is on it’s way out. I’ll let the board know the result after I change the rear mount.
front and rear motor mounts always go out first on tegs, it’s cuz the way the motor is mounted. whenever you accelerates the motor pushes on the rear mount and pulls on the front. the sides do also wear out, just not as fast.
will getting es inserts make this worse or help? i have my mounts out so thot id do something with em. not sure if theyre worn out but there are cracks around the edges
best of all they are pretty cheap at <50 a set. currently looking for the best deal…

We put a full set of Prothane inserts into my brother’s eclipse it shakes worse than my car now…
