shaking speedo needle

from 30-40 mph the speedo needle shakes, it kind of vibrates as it climbs. it stops after 40 mph. its bugs me. can it be fixed or is it a honda problem because i noticed this on my friends moms 88 accord.

My needle did that same $hit twice. Once when i was doin’ 55, tha needle jump to 70 or 80. And tha other time was when i was on tha highway doin’ 110 and it jumped to 120. So i’m just as concerned as u are. It hasn’t done it in a while, but I’m still leary about it.

mine doesnt jump to higher speeds but it shakes like it is absorbing the ground im driving on.

its comin for the tachs to do espeacially if you have removed the tach before

its the speedo not the tach

Have you disconnected ur speedo cable before??? Mine does the same thing at the same speeds. I’m guessing it’s cause the speedo cable is loose or something like that.

no i havent disconnected the speedo cable but i was suspecting the loose cable.

Yeah, i just put my indiglo gauges in about a month ago and after i took out the gauge cluster and detached the speedo cable, and then reassembled it, the neddle bounces a little but not like yours. My friends 87 integra bounced all the time and he just put a new speedo cable and it is great now!

Yup, sounds like you need a new speedo cable. It runs about $22 from Honda and is time consuming, but a fairly straight forward install.

yup… its the speedo cable, some times when the get old and the cable starts to bind up inside do to rust, corrosion, lack of lubrication… they just get old.
