Shaving roof gutter?

I have searched and found some good info. Yet welding is not 1 of my options and bondo/fiberglass is just out of the question.

My idea is to fill in the area with solder. I can get 30 lb. ingots of solder from my job we use to build radiators. I plan on doing it this way as it will be much faster and cheaper for me.

Now what i dont know is how bondo -> primer -> paint will come out on top of it.

any opinions?

i also plan to do my side moldings this way

those roof gutters are a designed flex point on the car.

you would probably add 100 lbs of metal to the car if you did the roof and the side mouldings.

Im not sure if your solder will hold up to the torque placed on it.

do you know if your solder is designed to adhere to sheet metal? are the formulas compatible? ie. some metals will automatically start to corrode when they come in contact with each other.

just on instinct im gonna say this is a bad idea. if you did all the prep yourself i couldnt see someone charging you that much to properly weld in some sheet metal.

i own a custom body shop yes u can fiberglass it not the best way to do it. if u do it the right way with fiber glass it should hold for a long tome. dont think about filling it with bondo it will crack way faster than fiber glass. i fiber glassed my boys civic and there still look sweet today been 3 years. just do it wright and u wont have problums. it also depends on how u drive your car to. just helping out .peace good luck

also u can weld metel in there and no it wont be 100 pounds. u dont have to put 1/2 metal there. all u need is some metal about the thickness of a dime.

ok he said he was gonna fill it all with solder… thats not a dime thick.

he doesnt want to use bondo or fiberglass as a filler therefore i was responding to his question.

ya well good luck to him with the solder lol.

just grind the paint off and have sheet metal welded in place then apply bondo over it thats prolly gonna be the best way

Thanx for all the input

this seems to be more complicated then i thought. I might just leave it as it is. I do like the way it looks shaved
