O.K. I did a few searches and didn’t find the specific info I need.
Over the last week I notice that my (stock) 5-speed shifter has become really “notchy” feeling. A lot of the time it won’t want to go easily into 1st, and then it feels notchy going into 2nd, and sometimes I have to try a couple times to get into 3rd. No grinding noises, so I’m pretty sure I need to look at the linkage. I have been studying the exploded illustration of the linkage from the Helms manual, and I am not sure which bushings to replace. Could someone enlighten me on this?
I am a pretty experienced shadetree mechanic, but if overhauling the shift linkage is a real pain in the butt, I would just as soon take it to a local garage. Opinions?
