Short hub and quick release help!!!

so i just got done installing my NRG short hub and quick release… i finish everything up… go to drive… and my steering wheel is very stiff… i can turn it and it stays turned around a corner while driveing… it’s like my power steering doesn’t exist… haha… so any help on the subject would be helpful… Thanks

Maybe you just felt it less with the OEM steering wheel, it’s normal that it feels stiffer with a smaller one since you have less of a circumference to make the same turn. It’s like comparing a breaker bar to a 1/4 ratchet.

its not that kind of stiff… it’s more like its dragging on somthing… i might have to shave down the column a bit or somthing… i’ll look into it a bit more this weekend…

shave the column? are u serious? u either messed something up or something. cuz even without power steering ur steering wheel will return. caster controls that… not ur steering wheel. if anything u prolly tightened something up or whatever. either way… u messed something up on installation. double check ur work. and make sure all things are pretty close or dead on, for torque specs.

well of course i would double check my work before i shave my plastic… but what is the torque on the steering wheel nut supposed to be??? i just don’t wanna be driving down the road and have my wheel fall off… lol

I believe I torqued my momo wheel and hub to my stock column to 86 ft/lbs and it’s been fine since… try the “tight enough” approach, not so tight you need a cheater bar to get the nut back off…

i didn’t know it was so hard to download even free pdf files of the helms manual. not to be a prick tho… but u do own the ride right? u should consider buying a manual, a helms preferably or even a haynes or chilton. even codeblack’s method works too. for u to even consider shaving off some of anything at all is pretty stupid… cuz ur old steering wheel worked fine.

One of the main differences i noticed when switching from the OEM steering wheel to the NRG short hub + quick release + MoMo wheel was I could “feel” alot more bumps and “feedback”.

It worked fine for about a year. Then I had the same thing happen to me, where the steering wheel wouldnt return all the way after turning. It would just stay completely to one side and feel loose until it maxed out to the other side.

It turned out it was my Outer Tie-Rod Ends that was causing those problems (when they go bad your steering wheel wont return to center like it normally would). You probably already had bad tie-rod ends but didn’t feel them that much on the OEM steering wheel.

They’re easy to check, just grab on to them and move them side-to-side, from the side thats connected to the knuckle. If it moves, replace them.

no powersteering FTW

I’m having this problem too. Before I removed the OEM wheel, it would go back to center. I tried various trick, not-so-tight nut, the loose nut would return a little, but dangerous. Would a lubricant in between the hub and the plastic thing help?

Im serious, check your tie rod ends.
Lift your car, take off a wheel, grab the tie-rod end and see if it has any play. If it does then replace it. When they start to wear down the steering wheel wont come back to center right away and sometimes your car will swerve when you hit a bump/pothole.

You might have had this problem before you swapped steering wheels except it was such a small difference it wasn’t noticeable.

And it never hurts to check.

Mine works perfectly. What I had to do was trim down the plastic covering the steering column. If you take the wheel off you’ll notice a lip that comes out a lil bit. If you don’t shave this off it’ll interfere with the steering wheel turning and returning. After I shaved it down I didn’t have any issues… Also get under your car and check your suspension. I remember how weird my wheel felt after installing it but now i’m used to it.

Hey bro I want to do this- I already have the NRG Quick release, & steering wheel. All I need is the NRG short hub. would the one from an EG work? Can I check how you did the trim down so I can knock it out on my ride?

Mike

Aite tired of the steering getting dragged with the plastic cover. I took the plastic cover and heres what it looked like. pretty sick imo.

See that’s not smart at all. I’ve been pulled out my car on 4 separate occasions with no steering column covers on and that shit aint fun. They always assume the car is stolen and freak out. I even got pulled over in front of the jail/sheriff’s office my dad is a sheriff in and the new guy didn’t recognize the name and almost arrested me cause the car was in my girls name at the time and couldn’t get ahold of her. But hey each person has there own way of solving a problem just giving some advice. LOL!

It looks wack without the column cover, put one on and clean it up some
