One main gripe (Ive heard) with an aftermarket short shifter is that a lot of people report a buzzing/rattling, whether it is caused by the end of the SS hitting the exhaust or some suggest its the bearings of the shifter itself.
Im guessing that you havent had a problem with rattling? Does the bottom of the ITR hit the exhaust/heatsheild/etc?
And by doing some more searching (multiple sources) it seems that not only is the ITR linkage basically a bling-bling standard g3 linkage, but that the ITR lever is also just a polished GSR shifter :gayfight:
I’m going to have to agree with Preston about the ITR shift linkage/shifter being your best bet. I personally run it and love it! The throws are short but not too short. The shifter also sits closer to you.
Here’s another option for guys that don’t want to buy a completely new linkage. Buy the piece that is circled in red but buy the DC part not DA. This piece is much thicker on the DC. The problem with doing this is that you won’t be able to use a stock DA shifter. The throw is too long and the linkage bottom and top will rub. The DC shifter works and also aftermarket SS will as well.
The part circled in blue is the reason why your shifter feels sloppy after 13 years of wear and tear. Whoever said you don’t need to change the linkage to improve the feel is WRONG. I challenge anyone to try both and tell me they can’t tell a difference.
Well i myself actually followed preston’s advice on this one. i ordered my itr linkage and shifter from inline four. Should be coming this week and should have it installed next week. Also i ordered the prothane shifter bushings. So we’ll see how that is and from waht ive heard its the shiz! LOL so yea, also got the itr shift knob and the boot…daymn im just ITR whoring it up arent i? LOL
i installed my itr linkage and shifter tonight, with the es bushings i had already ordered. I had a short throw shifter in my stock linkage, and i have to say the itr throw is longer but smoother and much more “gated” i wish the knob sat a lil lower though, but o well, for what i paid($135) it was well worth it, there is no more slop like before! I used to be able to move my shifter side to side 1.5-2 inches while in gear before, now there is almost no play!
Good to hear guys. If you want a “shorter” shifter after the ITR shifter is installed, I recommend buying a Mugen shift knob. It threads deep inside, hense causing the knob to sit as low as possible on the shifter. Give it a try.
I had already boughten a Skunk 2 weighted shift knob that i had installed when i had my short throw shifter. So i used that. I do wish the knob sat lower though, i have really long arms, so i wish the knob was not so high. My grandpa is an expert welder, so i might take an inch or so out of the top of the shifter, but i am hesitant, since i just got it
xmaltbeerxcp- I saw your thread in the general chat and it sounds like the setup is working great for you. Do you have any other comments about how it performs/feels? Im getting serious about doing this as well, and am always curious for more feedback.
incase someone is still interested in this. I now have my ITR shifter for sale. When the fucking thieves stole my car, they didnt take the shifter, so now I have no use for it. Check it out here:
